Urgently Needed, 1st Shift Welder

Job Description

This is a 1st shift contract MIG/TIG Welder role lasting approximately 45 weeks, with strong potential to transition into a direct, long-term position. You will perform precise MIG and TIG welding on wire products such as oven racks made from carbon and stainless steel, while supporting a high-volume production environment and collaborating across multiple departments.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality MIG and TIG welding on wire products, including smaller wire welds such as oven racks made from carbon and stainless steel.
• Set up and adjust welding equipment correctly for each job, ensuring proper parameters and safe operation.
• Work efficiently in a high-production environment, maintaining consistency, accuracy, and attention to detail in all welds.
• Read and interpret weld blueprints to understand specifications, dimensions, and welding requirements.
• Collaborate as a team player and support other departments as needed, including press brake, wire room, and shear.
• Handle and lift materials up to approximately 20 pounds as part of daily welding and fabrication tasks.
• Follow established safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment while welding and working in the shop.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and cared for.
• Contribute to hybrid production tasks that may include fabrication steps related to wire products and associated sheet metal components.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of MIG welding experience in a production or fabrication environment.
• At least 3 years of TIG welding experience, including work on wire products or similar materials.
• Hands-on experience welding carbon steel.
• Hands-on experience welding stainless steel.
• Ability to set up and configure MIG and TIG welding equipment independently.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting weld blueprints.
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and support multiple departments such as press brake, wire room, and shear.
• Capability to perform precise, concise welds in a high-volume production setting.
• Ability to lift and handle materials up to approximately 20 pounds on a regular basis.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in fabrication environments involving wire products, sheet metal parts, and tube fabrication.
• Comfort working in a hybrid role that may include welding, fabrication, and support tasks across different departments.
• Ownership of personal welding gear, including helmet and gloves.
• Familiarity with production processes that may include powder coating, assembly, packing, and distribution.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, high-quality welds.
• Reliable work habits and willingness to work either standard 1st shift or weekend shift as needed.

Work Environment

The work environment is a full-service custom wire manufacturing facility focused on producing custom fabricated wire products for customers throughout North America. The shop supports a range of processes including sheet metal parts, tube fabrication, welding, powder coating, assembly, packing, and multi-point distribution, creating a dynamic and varied production setting. Available schedules include a 1st shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or a weekend shift on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., offering options for different work-life preferences. You will use MIG and TIG welding equipment and related fabrication tools in a structured, safety-conscious environment. Personal welding gear such as a helmet and gloves is required, and typical physical demands include lifting up to approximately 20 pounds and standing for extended periods in a busy production area.

This is a Contract position based out of Orland, IN.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
