Controls Engineer

TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a global Tier 1 automotive supplier to hire a Controls Engineer. This role will support highly automated assembly operations by serving as a technical resource for PLCs, robotics, vision systems, and manufacturing controls. The ideal candidate will have hands-on automation experience and a passion for troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and advanced manufacturing technology.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, modify, and support PLC and HMI systems used in automated assembly operations.

• Support industrial robotics, vision systems, and automated production equipment.

• Diagnose electrical, pneumatic, sensor, and controls-related issues to minimize downtime.

• Integrate and maintain error-proofing systems, torque tools, and quality validation equipment.

• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring equipment failures.

• Partner with maintenance, manufacturing, and engineering teams to improve system performance and reliability.

• Support automation upgrades, controls projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Optimize cycle times, equipment performance, and production efficiency.

• Train and support maintenance technicians on controls and automation systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field; equivalent experience considered.

• 2+ years of experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment.

• Experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLCs.

• Ability to read ladder logic, troubleshoot I/O, and support controls systems.

• Experience with industrial robotics, servo drives, VFDs, and industrial networking.

• Knowledge of Ethernet/IP, Profinet, or similar communication protocols.

• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Automotive manufacturing experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with FANUC, ABB, or Yaskawa robotics.

• Experience with Cognex or Keyence vision systems.

• Tier 1 automotive manufacturing experience.

• Background in highly automated production environments.
