Lab Technician (Rabies Testing & Vaccination)

Shift Hours: 8 hours per day, Monday - Friday

Job Description/ Duties:

• Note: Rabies testing will require pre-exposure vaccination and immunity verification before testing.
• Performs laboratory testing included but not limited to waived CLIA tests, environmental tests, rabies tests on various animals, surveillance and/or epidemiology tests.
• Identifies methods and prepares samples for appropriate testing methods, prepares special stains, solutions, reagents, and media, interprets results and reports findings, reports both normal and abnormal results, performs and documents daily quality control procedures, and assists in maintaining inventory of laboratory reagents and supplies.
• Receives clinical and environmental samples from providers and distributes for testing, accessions into the laboratory following procedures, and documents any issues with samples and notifies the supervisor.
• Performs instrument maintenance and calibration procedures throughout the lab and documents procedures performed.
• Completes training and becomes proficient in Category B packaging and shipping procedures and routine shipment of supplies, prepares, tracks, and ships specimens to reference laboratories as needed for outbreak investigation, works with the lab courier system to arrange for shipment pick-up.
• Assists lab staff answering phone calls, receiving and reviewing specimen submission forms, and contacts providers regarding sample submission issues.
• Complies with all accreditations, state, and federal regulations and guidelines pertaining to but not limited to: safety policies, drug and alcohol testing, bloodborne pathogens, chemical safety.

Qualification:

• Associate degree in science, medical technician, healthcare, or veterinary technician.
