Job Description

As Finishing Department Manager, you will be responsible for the overall performance, organization, quality, efficiency, and production of the finishing department.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

1. Manage 5–10+ finishing employees, including providing direction, leadership, accountability, and day-to-day supervision.

2. Schedule and prioritize finishing production to ensure projects move through the finishing department efficiently and according to required production deadlines.

3. Manage, preparation, and spraying operations, ensuring work is properly prepared and completed according to Silver Creek's quality standards.

4. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot spray equipment and finishing equipment to ensure consistent production and minimize downtime.

5. Maintain a strong working knowledge of finishing systems and materials, including Polyurethane, Pre-Cat finishes, stains, glazes, primers, sealers, and other products used in high-end cabinet finishing.

6. Create, develop, and produce paint and stain finish control samples that accurately represent the approved finished product and can be consistently and repeatedly reproduced at production scale. Establish and document the appropriate finishing processes, materials, colors, application methods, and procedures necessary to maintain consistency between the approved control sample and production work.

7. Maintain high-end architectural finish quality consistent with Silver Creek Design's standards and the expectations of our customers, designers, builders, and dealers.

8. Train and develop finishing employees, including teaching proper preparation, sanding, spraying, finishing techniques, equipment operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.

9. Control finishing material usage and waste by establishing efficient processes and monitoring the use of paints, stains, primers, solvents, and other finishing materials.

10. Troubleshoot finishing defects and manage rework, identifying the cause of problems and implementing corrective procedures to prevent recurring issues.

11. Maintain production deadlines and communicate with management when staffing, materials, equipment, or other issues could affect scheduled completion dates.

12. Enforce safety and chemical-handling procedures, including proper use, storage, handling, and disposal of finishing materials and maintaining a safe working environment.

13. Coordinate closely with cabinet production, assembly, and other departments to ensure a smooth flow of work into and out of the finishing department.

14. Take ownership of the overall output and quality of the finishing department. This position is intended to be a management and leadership role—not simply a position for being the best painter or finisher in the shop. The expectation is that you will build a strong finishing team, develop efficient processes, maintain quality, and ensure the department consistently meets Silver Creek's production requirements.

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

As Finishing Department Manager, you will be expected to lead by example and maintain a professional, productive, and respectful work environment.

You will have significant responsibility for identifying opportunities to improve finishing processes, reduce waste and rework, increase production efficiency, and maintain or improve Silver Creek's quality standards.

An important part of this position will be developing repeatable finishing systems and standards. Approved paint and stain control samples should serve as production standards that can be reproduced consistently by the finishing team, regardless of which qualified employee performs the work.

You will work closely with Company Owner and Shop Manager to coordinate production and continually improve the overall manufacturing process.

As Silver Creek continues to grow and invest in equipment, technology, and automation, we expect the finishing department to evolve as well. Your leadership will be an important part of developing the department into an efficient, consistent, and scalable operation.
