Snapshot / Role Overview We're seeking a Commercial HVAC Construction Estimator in San Diego, CA to price and win HVAC construction projects for an established commercial HVAC contractor. Impact Own HVAC construction estimates from takeoff through bid day and award. Add estimating capacity to a construction group that is ready to bid more work. Protect margin with numbers built on real installed costs. Earn directly on the work you win through commission on awarded projects. Responsibilities Prepare complete labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor estimates for commercial HVAC construction projects. Perform takeoffs for ductwork, HVAC piping, and equipment from plans and specifications. Estimate tenant improvements, retrofits, and ground-up projects, from small jobs to larger bids. Price plan-and-spec and design-build work. Solicit and level vendor and subcontractor quotes. Attend job walks and pre-bid meetings, and clarify scope with general contractors, owners, and engineers. Write proposals with clear scope, qualifications, and exclusions. Hand off awarded projects to project management and field teams with clean budgets. Price change orders and added scope on active projects. Track bid results and maintain cost history. Compensation and Logistics Competitive salary depending on experience, plus commission on awarded projects. This is a full-time position located in San Diego, CA. Candidates must be local to San Diego or willing to relocate to the area. Must-Haves: Experience estimating commercial HVAC construction projects for a mechanical or HVAC contractor. Working knowledge of what ductwork, piping, and equipment cost to install in the field. Ability to read mechanical plans and specifications and produce complete takeoffs. Willingness to estimate smaller projects alongside larger bids. Based in the San Diego area, or relocating to San Diego before starting. Nice-to-Haves: Field background in sheet metal or HVAC installation. Experience with estimating and takeoff software such as FastPipe/FastDuct, Trimble, QuoteSoft, or Bluebeam. Design-build or negotiated project experience. Familiarity with building automation and controls scope. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.
