Blood Bank Laboratory Supervisor / Transfusion Services

A healthcare organization in Central Georgia is seeking an experienced Blood Bank Laboratory Supervisor to provide clinical and operational leadership within a hospital-based laboratory. This is a full-time leadership opportunity for an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist with strong Blood Bank and transfusion services expertise. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on technical knowledge along with demonstrated experience leading staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting quality initiatives, and overseeing complex laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership and technical oversight for Blood Bank operations.
• Serve as a technical resource for laboratory staff.
• Oversee testing quality, result accuracy, competencies, and department workflow.
• Support blood product management and safe transfusion practices.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laboratory and Blood Bank regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate staff orientation, training, competency assessments, and ongoing development.
• Develop, review, and implement laboratory policies and procedures.
• Participate in quality improvement and corrective-action initiatives.
• Monitor department performance, staffing needs, productivity, and operational goals.
• Coach and develop laboratory staff while supporting a positive team culture.
• Collaborate with laboratory leadership and other clinical departments.
• Participate in regulatory and accreditation readiness activities.

The position carries responsibility for daily laboratory operations, staff development, regulatory compliance, quality, and performance improvement.

Schedule

• Full-time
• Monday through Friday
• Evening shift
• Approximately 1:00 PM to 10:30 PM
• No weekends
• No holidays

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or equivalent.
• Current MLS or MT certification through ASCP or an equivalent accrediting organization.
• Minimum of 3 years of technical laboratory experience.
• Strong recent Blood Bank experience.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Knowledge of laboratory regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Strong communication, organization, coaching, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of Blood Bank experience.
• Previous formal laboratory leadership experience.
• Experience in high-complexity transfusion services.
• Experience with Blood Bank inspections and regulatory standards.
• Knowledge of CAP, AABB, FDA, and Joint Commission requirements.
• Experience developing laboratory policies and procedures.
• Experience with competency programs, corrective action, and validation processes.
• Strong laboratory information system knowledge.
• Proven ability to coach staff and promote a positive department culture.

The client specifically prefers substantial Blood Bank experience, strong communication and people leadership, policy-writing experience, and familiarity with regulatory requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

• $85,488 to $128,232 annually
• Sign-on bonus available for eligible candidates
• Relocation assistance available based on eligibility
