Job Description
NEMT Driver – Non-Emergency Medical Transportation
Quality United Logistics Inc.
Location: Hampton Roads / Newport News, VA
Pay: $18.00–$19.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Flexible Scheduling | Approximately 1 Saturday per month
Job Description
Quality United Logistics Inc. is seeking dependable, professional, and compassionate Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Drivers to join our team.
Our drivers provide safe and reliable transportation for individuals traveling to and from medical appointments, treatment centers, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, dialysis appointments, and other approved destinations.
This position involves transporting ambulatory and wheelchair passengers, including veterans, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and other members who may require additional assistance.
We are looking for drivers who understand that NEMT is more than driving. Our passengers depend on us for safe, respectful, professional, and on-time transportation.
Starting Pay
$18.00/hour – Non-Certified Driver
For applicants who meet our basic hiring requirements but still need to complete required NEMT training/certifications.
$19.00/hour – Certified/Experienced Driver (with 90 day pay increase for 1st year)
For qualified applicants with applicable NEMT experience who already possess required/current training or credentials.
Final starting rate will be based on verified experience, qualifications, certifications, and credentialing status.
Schedule
This position is primarily Monday through Friday with flexible scheduling.
Drivers should also be available for approximately one Saturday per month when needed.
Because medical transportation schedules are based on passenger appointments, start and end times may vary. Applicants should have reasonable flexibility for early appointments, return trips, and occasional schedule changes.
What You'll Do
- Safely transport passengers to and from medical appointments and other authorized destinations.
- Operate company-owned NEMT vehicles.
- Assist ambulatory and wheelchair passengers according to their required level of assistance.
- Properly secure wheelchairs using approved four-point securement and passenger restraint systems.
- Perform pre-trip/post-trip vehicle and safety inspections.
- Maintain communication with dispatch throughout the workday.
- Use our driver application to receive trips and document required trip events.
- Arrive on time and provide professional, courteous service.
- Maintain passenger privacy and confidentiality.
- Follow Quality United Logistics policies and Virginia Medicaid/DMAS NEMT requirements.
Virginia Medicaid requires drivers to provide the authorized level of assistance and requires wheelchairs to be forward-facing and secured using four securement straps plus appropriate lap and shoulder restraints.
Virginia DMAS/NEMT Driver Requirements
Applicants must be able to satisfy applicable Virginia DMAS and broker credentialing requirements, including:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have held a valid driver's license for at least two years.
- Hold a current driver's license valid for the vehicle being operated.
- Have an acceptable driving record. DMAS states drivers may not have more than two chargeable accidents or moving violations during the previous three years, and Virginia DMV driver's-license points may not exceed -2.
- No driver's-license suspension or revocation for moving traffic violations within the previous five years.
- Successfully complete required criminal-background screening. Individuals convicted of applicable Virginia barrier crimes are prohibited from driving under the program.
- Successfully complete required drug screening and driver credentialing.
- Meet applicable Virginia/National driving-record screening requirements.
Required NEMT training includes Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) or equivalent, Basic First Aid, Defensive Driving, HIPAA training, and Wheelchair Securement training when applicable.
Don't already have all of the required NEMT certifications? We still encourage you to apply. Qualified candidates may be considered at the non-certified starting rate while completing required training and credentialing.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in NEMT, medical transportation, patient transportation, wheelchair transportation, senior transportation, healthcare, EMS, caregiving, paratransit, or passenger transportation is preferred but not required for otherwise qualified applicants.
Certified/experienced applicants should be prepared to provide documentation of applicable current credentials and training.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for drivers who are dependable, patient, professional, safety-conscious, comfortable assisting passengers with mobility limitations, able to follow schedules and trip instructions, and able to communicate effectively with passengers, dispatchers, medical facilities, and caregivers.
Drivers must also be comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for trip assignments, navigation, status updates, signatures, and required trip documentation.
