Join the Bureau of State Library as a Temporary Scanning Technician and help preserve important Pennsylvania documents. This project gives you the chance to support digital access by transforming physical materials into high-quality digital files. Your careful work will help protect fragile originals while expanding public access to valuable information. This position offers hands-on experience with specialized equipment and preservation techniques.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports a temporary digitization project that converts physical issues of The Pennsylvania Bulletin into digital files for long-term access. As a Temporary Scanning Technician, you will perform the following duties:
- Image Capture: Operate Zeutschel scanners to create clear and accurate digital images of original materials
- Quality Control: Use Omniscan software to review and verify image quality during processing
- Equipment Troubleshooting: Address scanning errors and resolve technical issues on equipment
- Equipment Cleaning: Perform routine cleaning to keep scanning equipment functioning properly
- Material Handling: Apply proper techniques to protect fragile documents during scanning
- Material Assessment: Evaluate physical items to decide suitability for digitization and long-term preservation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Part-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of library-clerical work including two years of advanced library clerical work comparable to the Library Assistant II, and graduation from high school; or
- Two years of advanced library clerical work, and a associate degree or equivalent training with major course work in library science; or
- A bachelor's degree.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
