Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Ammonia Maintenance Mechanic to support the safe and efficient operation of industrial ammonia refrigeration and utility systems within a food manufacturing environment.


This role is responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, system monitoring, and maintaining compliance with IIAR standards, PSM/RMP requirements, and company safety policies.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on mechanical and ammonia refrigeration experience, a proactive approach to maintenance, and the ability to work effectively in an industrial production environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain industrial ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, controls, and related equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with PSM/RMP and IIAR standards.
  • Troubleshoot refrigeration system issues and respond promptly to alarms and equipment problems.
  • Conduct daily system inspections and maintain accurate maintenance and operational documentation.
  • Support PSM/RMP compliance activities, audits, inspections, and safety training.
  • Assist with maintenance and operation of plant utility systems, including boilers, air compressors, HVAC, and water systems.
  • Work closely with production and maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined-space procedures, chemical handling, and required PPE.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • 3+ years of industrial ammonia refrigeration experience.
  • RETA CIRO or CARO certification strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of PSM/RMP, IIAR standards, and industrial refrigeration best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical/mechanical schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills.
  • Experience using a CMMS for maintenance tracking and documentation.
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, and confined environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance.


Work Environment

This is a hands-on maintenance position in a refrigerated food production/industrial manufacturing environment. The position may require working in cold, wet, noisy, or confined areas. Employees are required to follow all applicable safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
