Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Accountant to support the financial operations of our Kansas City team. This position is responsible for a broad range of accounting activities, including financial reporting, account reconciliation, cost review, month-end close, and financial analysis.

The ideal candidate will have 2–3 years or more of accounting experience and be comfortable working with a high degree of independence. Experience in homebuilding is strongly preferred, although candidates with backgrounds in construction, manufacturing, building materials, real estate, or other related industries are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Support the preparation and review of financial information related to homebuilding operations and individual projects
• Analyze project and job costs to identify unusual activity, budget differences, incorrect coding, or other discrepancies
• Review financial transactions and work with the appropriate teams to correct errors and ensure costs are recorded properly
• Assist with the monthly close process and make sure required accounting activities are completed within established deadlines
• Prepare general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations and investigate outstanding differences
• Record cash activity, including deposits and related accounting entries
• Coordinate and monitor property tax payments and other recurring financial obligations
• Assist with sales, property, and other applicable tax reporting requirements
• Compile recurring financial and operational reports for management
• Review employee reimbursements and verify that expenses have the necessary supporting documentation
• Assist with the review and reconciliation of HOA and other related financial information
• Monitor upcoming projects and identify situations requiring local registrations, permits, or licenses
• Respond to vendor questions and assist with resolving billing or payment issues
• Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation as needed

What We're Looking For

• 2–3+ years of accounting experience preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
• Homebuilding accounting experience is a significant plus
• Experience in construction, manufacturing, building materials, real estate, or a related industry will also be considered
• Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals
• Ability to work with significant amounts of financial information while maintaining accuracy
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills

Independence Is Important

This position is unique because you will be the only accounting/finance professional physically located in our Kansas City office.

You will have training, resources, and support available, particularly as you become familiar with the business. However, we're looking for someone who can eventually take ownership of the local accounting responsibilities and operate without needing constant direction.
