About this job
Collections is one of the hardest jobs in a credit union, and the people who do it well know that. You have the conversations everyone else avoids. You make judgment calls that affect real households. When the numbers call for it, you hold the line, and when a member is having a rough year, you still treat them with respect. If that sounds like your job already, we'd like to talk to you about doing that job at MCCU.
MCCU is a $370 million, member-owned credit union with branches in Marshall, Coldwater, and Battle Creek. We're looking for a Collections Supervisor to lead our Resolutions Team and own our collections and recovery program. That program runs from the first missed payment all the way through charge-off and legal recovery.
What you'll do
- Work directly with delinquent borrowers. You'll analyze their financial situations and build realistic plans to bring their accounts current.
- Find workable solutions for members facing financial hardship, and help them understand their options for resolving their accounts.
- Start repossession when repayment arrangements don't work out, and manage the recovery of collateral.
- Pursue legal recovery on charged-off accounts in line with credit union policy.
- Prepare and track documentation for third-party collectors, small claims court, repossession, foreclosure, and bankruptcy proceedings.
- Represent MCCU in small claims court.
- Act as our liaison with attorneys and outside parties on collection and legal recovery efforts.
- Monitor delinquency trends and adjust strategy as conditions change.
- Prepare collection and charge-off reporting, including regular reports to the Board.
- Lead, train, and coach a team of two. That means regular performance conversations, annual reviews, and holding people accountable with fairness and clarity.
- Watch for fraud, scams, and signs of elder financial exploitation, and escalate concerns through the right channels.
Why you'll like it here
- Your work gets seen. You report to our COO, and your numbers go in front of the Board, so your input shapes how we manage risk.
- Your judgment matters. We want someone who can read a situation and find the right path forward for the member and for the credit union. We trust you to make those calls.
- You'll know your team well. With two direct reports, you have room to coach, develop, and build a team that works well together.
- Your schedule is predictable. This is a full-time, on-site, office-based role. The only travel is occasional local trips to court and to the branches to meet with members.
- You'll keep growing. We support ongoing training and professional development, and we'll count on you to pass what you learn along to your team.
This job takes a steady head and a thick skin. It also takes a soft spot for people who are having a hard time. If you have both, apply today.
Requirements:- Associate's degree in business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience

- Strong analytical and negotiation skills for assessing delinquent accounts and resolution options
- Clear, professional communication with members, staff, attorneys, and outside parties, both in person and by phone
- Sound judgment and empathy when working with members facing financial hardship
- Ability to stay composed and manage stress under pressure
- Ability to manage conflict within your team and across departments
- Ability to delegate effectively and hold team members accountable
- Comfort representing MCCU in small claims court, with occasional local travel to court and to the other branches
