The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists with the leadership and management of day-to-day clinical operations in our skilled nursing and long-term care facility. Working closely with the Director of Nursing (DON), nursing leadership, and the interdisciplinary team, the ADON helps ensure safe, high-quality, resident-centered care.
Responsibilities include:
Assist the Director of Nursing with the overall management of nursing services and clinical operations
Support the daily coordination and delivery of quality resident care
Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support to RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other nursing team members
Assist with nursing staff scheduling, assignments, and clinical coverage as needed
Monitor nursing practices to promote consistent, safe, and effective resident care
Assist with staff training, orientation, competency development, and ongoing education
Support performance management and accountability for nursing staff
Monitor resident care and assist with identifying opportunities for clinical improvement
Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives
Assist with care planning and interdisciplinary team meetings
Monitor compliance with federal and state regulations governing skilled nursing and long-term care
Support survey readiness and regulatory compliance efforts
Assist with reviewing clinical documentation and ensuring accurate, timely completion of required records
Help monitor infection prevention and control practices
Assist with investigations, follow-up, and development of corrective action plans when needed
Promote resident rights, dignity, safety, and person-centered care
Assist in addressing resident and family concerns in a professional and timely manner
Establish and maintain effective communication among nursing staff, residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members
Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Participate in an on-call rotation with nursing leadership
Current, active Kansas Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
Current Adult CPR certification
At least 2 years of RN experience
Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
Ability to provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff
Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and leadership skills
Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members
Knowledge of professional nursing standards and practices
3 or more years of nursing experience
Previous experience as an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), Assistant DON, Director of Nursing (DON), RN Unit Manager, or Nurse Manager
Experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, geriatric nursing, rehabilitation, or post-acute care
Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid requirements
Experience with long-term care clinical operations and nursing management
Knowledge of state and federal long-term care regulations
Experience with survey readiness, regulatory compliance, and QAPI
Experience with staff education, training, competency development, and performance management
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and promote accountability, teamwork, and quality improvement
