Position: Systems Engineer II

MIKEL, Inc. is seeking a motivated and experienced Systems Engineer II to join our In-Service Support team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting technical investigations, analyzing system performance, and developing solutions to complex engineering challenges. You will work with a multi-disciplined team of engineers to support the development, testing, and maintenance of the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 SONAR system.

Responsibilities:

  • Installation, Integration & Testing (INCO): Assist government personnel with software installation, checkout events, and Installation and Checkout (INCO) milestones onboard Fleet platforms and surface ship naval combatants.
  • Troubleshooting & Anomaly Analysis: Research, troubleshoot, and resolve critical issues preventing successful INCO; perform root-cause analysis on tactical systems and application software to isolate faults, degraded performance, intermittent operational anomalies, and non-recurring failures.
  • Combat System Assessment Support: Facilitate Combat Systems Assessment Testing (CSAT) events onboard active platforms, including prepping tactical systems and providing operational briefings to Ship’s Company.
  • Test Plan & Procedure Development: Author, refine, and maintain comprehensive test plans and procedures to execute Test & Evaluation (T&E) for SONAR systems across diverse operational sites, including shipyards, maritime test vessels, sea-trial platforms, trainer sites, System Maintenance Facilities (SMFs), and Combat System Integration Sites (CSIS).
  • Cybersecurity Verification & Validation: Develop specialized test plans and procedures to verify that cybersecurity vulnerability remediations across tactical SONAR baselines and lab infrastructure comply with government requirements without degrading real-time system performance.
  • Technical & Software Documentation Control: Manage version control and update essential baseline documentation, including Software Version Descriptions (SVDs), Technical Insertions (TIs), and software baseline documentation.
  • Reporting & Operational Briefings: Draft clear daily Situation Reports (SITREPs) and formal Test Completion Reports; deliver tactical and operational briefs to government stakeholders, leadership, and external agencies as required.
  • Fleet Distance Support: Monitor, investigate, and resolve Distance Support (DS) technical assistance requests originating from Fleet sailors and Regional Maintenance Centers (RMCs).
  • Laboratory Operations & System Grooming: Support ground-based laboratory testing facilities through routine system grooming, software updates, maintenance, and environment upkeep.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance. A SECRET clearance requires United States Citizenship.
  • 6-10 years of verifiable experience with the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work with little supervision within a larger team.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
  • Linux/C+ programming experience.
  • Basic electronics repair and theory experience.
