Laser Operator — 1st, 2nd & 3rd Shift

Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Laser Operators to join our manufacturing team across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.

The Laser Operator is responsible for setting up and operating laser cutting equipment, loading and unloading materials, inspecting finished parts, troubleshooting basic machine issues, and ensuring products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and according to established quality standards.

The ideal candidate has previous laser or CNC operating experience, strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate laser cutting equipment according to established procedures and production requirements.
  • Verify material type, size, and thickness before beginning production.
  • Load and unload raw materials and finished parts using appropriate equipment.
  • De-nest laser-cut parts and perform secondary finishing activities as required.
  • Inspect completed parts to ensure they meet dimensional, visual, and quality specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic machine, alignment, cutting, and production issues.
  • Make appropriate machine adjustments to maintain quality and production requirements.
  • Troubleshoot minor programming or operating issues as needed.
  • Apply a basic understanding of G and M codes.
  • Cross-train and operate multiple laser platforms, machines, and manufacturing cells as required.
  • Enter production quantities, labor hours, and other required information into computer-based production systems.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as required.
  • Report and document material, production, equipment, and quality issues.
  • Maintain equipment logs and communicate maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform operator-level preventative maintenance and routine machine checks.
  • Assist with training and mentoring other team members on laser setup and operation as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all safety, quality, production, and environmental procedures.
  • Assist in other production areas and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous laser, CNC, or manufacturing machine operating experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturing drawings.
  • Basic understanding of G and M codes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math.
  • Ability to use precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Self-motivated with a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating laser cutting equipment.
  • Experience with CNC machinery.
  • Experience with Mitsubishi, Bystronic, or similar laser systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting laser cutting equipment.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming and G/M codes.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Experience working in a high-volume or highly technical manufacturing environment.
  • Overhead crane experience.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment.

Physical Demands & Working Environment

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and components as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, depending on the position and work area.
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, twist, grasp, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery and manufacturing equipment.
  • May be exposed to noise, dust, heat, and other typical manufacturing environment conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work the assigned shift and overtime as required.
