Job Description
Job description:
Residential Adults with Disabilities, LLC (RAD) is seeking an experienced, motivated leader to join our organization as an Assisted Living Home Administrator. RAD provides comprehensive services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including three residential assisted living homes and a robust Day Habilitation and community-based services program.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for the day-to-day administrative oversight of RAD's assisted living homes and for supporting strong, compliant, person-centered operations across the organization. The Administrator will work closely with RAD's executive leadership, nursing, residential, program, and administrative teams.
We are seeking someone who brings sound judgment, strong leadership skills, attention to detail, accountability, and a genuine commitment to the individuals we serve. The successful candidate must meet the applicable State of Alaska requirements to serve as an assisted living home administrator under 7 AAC 75.230.
Training & Transition Period
RAD anticipates a structured training and orientation period of approximately 3–4 months before the successful candidate independently assumes the full scope of Administrator responsibilities. This period is intended to provide comprehensive orientation to RAD's residential homes, Day Habilitation/community programs, personnel systems, quality assurance processes, Medicaid/HCBS requirements, and Alaska assisted living licensing expectations.
The 3–4 month training period may be shortened for a candidate who comes into the position with previous assisted living home administrator training and relevant Administrator experience, particularly experience in an Alaska licensed assisted living home. Any accelerated transition will be based on demonstrated competency, familiarity with applicable requirements, organizational readiness, and confirmation that the individual meets State of Alaska qualification requirements.
A candidate who has not yet completed an applicable State-approved management/administrator training pathway may participate in RAD's orientation and development process; however, the individual must meet all applicable State requirements before independently serving in the Administrator capacity.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide administrative oversight of RAD's residential assisted living homes and support coordination across Day Habilitation and community-based services.
- Ensure operations comply with Alaska assisted living statutes and regulations, including AS 47.33 and 7 AAC 75, as well as applicable Medicaid/HCBS requirements and RAD policies.
- Oversee implementation of policies and procedures, personnel practices, resident services, documentation, quality assurance, incident response, and corrective action processes.
- Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and accountability to managers and staff while promoting a respectful, person-centered culture.
- Participate in hiring, orientation, training, performance management, and development of staff and leadership team members.
- Collaborate with nursing, care coordinators, guardians/representatives, State agencies, and other service providers to support resident needs and continuity of care.
- Maintain readiness for licensing reviews, inspections, audits, and required reporting.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and be available to respond to urgent staffing, resident, or operational needs outside normal business hours when necessary.
- Be willing, during the training/orientation period and when operationally necessary, to work occasional evening, weekend, or overnight shifts to understand residential operations and support continuity of services.
State of Alaska Administrator Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and must meet the applicable requirements of 7 AAC 75.230, including the requirements that apply to the licensed capacity of the home(s) for which the Administrator is responsible. RAD will require documentation sufficient to establish qualification and obtain/maintain Residential Licensing approval, as applicable.
For a home licensed to serve 1–10 residents, an applicant must meet at least one applicable pathway under 7 AAC 75.230(c)(1), which may include:
- Completion of an approved management or administrator training course plus at least one year of documented experience relevant to the population served as a care provider, if the Administrator will provide direct care;
- Completion of an approved/equivalent certified nurse aide training program plus at least one year of documented experience relevant to the population served as a care provider;
- At least two years of documented care-provider experience relevant to the population served, together with documented skills or training relevant to that population; or
- Sufficient documented experience in an out-of-home care facility, together with sufficient training, education, or similar experience to fulfill the Administrator duties for the type and size of home and population served, subject to Department approval on a case-by-case basis.
For a home licensed to serve 11 or more residents, or when operating multiple homes with a total capacity of 11 or more residents, an applicant must meet at least one applicable pathway under 7 AAC 75.230(c)(2), which may include:
- Completion of an approved management or administrator training course plus at least two years of documented experience relevant to the population served as a care provider, if the Administrator will provide direct care;
- Completion of an approved/equivalent certified nurse aide training program plus at least two years of documented experience relevant to the population served as a care provider;
- At least five years of documented experience relevant to the population served as an Administrator or staff supervisor of a home serving 10 or fewer residents; or
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN), with documented experience relevant to the population served.
Under 7 AAC 75.230, the Department may accept a baccalaureate or higher degree in gerontology, health administration, or another health-related field in place of all or part of required experience when the degree work is determined by the Department to be equivalent to the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Administrator, Resident Manager, program management, or supervisory experience in an Alaska assisted living home, HCBS provider, or comparable human-services setting.
- Experience serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Working knowledge of Alaska Residential Licensing, Senior and Disabilities Services, Medicaid HCBS requirements, person-centered planning, incident reporting, and quality assurance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, communicate professionally, and follow through accurately and independently.
- Strong organizational, documentation, problem-solving, and regulatory-compliance skills.
Compensation
Administrator compensation is open and negotiable based on education, relevant experience, prior Administrator training, demonstrated leadership competency, scope of responsibility, and the candidate's ability to meet State of Alaska qualification requirements. Compensation during any required training/orientation period will be discussed with the selected candidate based on experience and readiness to assume the full Administrator role.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join an established organization with a strong leadership and nursing team, three residential assisted living homes, and a robust Day Habilitation/community program. We are looking for a leader who wants to learn RAD thoroughly, build strong systems and teams, and take meaningful responsibility for the quality and consistency of our day-to-day operations.
