Senior System Administrator
Location: Huntsville, AL
6-month contract-to-perm: Conversion salary $90,000 up to $110,000 for perfect fit
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and optimization of enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, operating systems, workstations, and software applications. Provides advanced troubleshooting and technical support for hardware, software, networking, and system performance issues; manages backups, disaster recovery processes, system access controls, and information security. Leads the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of new technologies, system upgrades, and infrastructure enhancements while collaborating with vendors, developers, and internal stakeholders. Supports strategic IT planning, budgeting, vendor selection, and project execution, serves as a technical resource for complex infrastructure challenges, delivers training and knowledge sharing to IT staff, and participates in on-call support to ensure reliable and continuous system operations.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of recent Microsoft Windows System Administration experience in an enterprise environment supporting hundreds of users.
- Extensive experience administering Windows Server environments, including installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Single Sign-On (SSO), and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
- Experience managing Microsoft 365 environments, including G3/G5 licensing and Entra ID (Azure AD).
- Experience administering endpoint management solutions, including Microsoft Intune.
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure, server administration, virtualization, and enterprise computing environments.
- Hands-on experience with VMware technologies, including vCenter and virtualized server environments.
- Experience with SAN technologies, enterprise storage solutions, and backup/recovery platforms, including Veeam.
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and enterprise networking systems preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; Microsoft certifications (MCSA/MCSE) preferred.

- Leadership experience with the ability to lead projects, mentor team members, and serve as a technical resource.
- Strong presentation and communication skills with experience presenting technical information to leadership, stakeholders, vendors, and city officials.
