Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Location: Hardin, MT
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Shift: Days with Call Rotation
Reports To: Laboratory Manager

Pay: $36.41 to $43.69 per hour plus benefits

  • Weekend Bonus: $2.00
  • Sign On Bonus: $10,000.00
  • Overnight accommodations while on shift/call


Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our laboratory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing laboratory testing, specimen processing, operating automated analyzers, evaluating test results, and maintaining high standards of laboratory quality and compliance.

The position requires someone who can work effectively across multiple laboratory areas, collaborate with other departments, and work independently when required, including during on-call situations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process patient specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Operate automated analyzers and specialized laboratory equipment.
  • Perform routine and manual laboratory tests according to established procedures.
  • Evaluate and verify laboratory test results for accuracy.
  • Work across various laboratory departments, including Microbiology and Immunohematology.
  • Perform and document laboratory quality control activities.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and Quality Assurance programs.
  • Follow established laboratory policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Participate in facility performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with researching, developing, and implementing new laboratory procedures when needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and laboratory records.
  • Work cooperatively with laboratory staff and other departments.
  • Perform duties independently and effectively in an unsupervised or on-call setting.
  • Properly operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.


Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field, as applicable to the position.
  • MLS/MT certification through ASCP or equivalent, OR MLT certification, depending on qualifications.
  • Current Montana Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or eligibility to obtain/maintain required state licensure.
  • Knowledge of routine laboratory procedures and testing methodologies.
  • Ability to work in multiple areas of the laboratory.
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions within established laboratory procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to laboratory accuracy and quality.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microbiology and Immunohematology.
  • Experience working with automated analyzers and specialized laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of laboratory computer systems.
  • Familiarity with CLIA, HIPAA, compliance, Quality Assurance, and proficiency testing requirements.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.


Schedule:

  • Full-time position.
  • Day/evening shifts.
  • Nights and weekends may be part of the regular workweek.
  • On-call responsibilities may be required.
