Location: Reynoldsburg, Ohio
Position Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $80,000–$110,000 annually
Travel: Up to 20% within the United States
Position Overview
Reliance One is hiring an experienced Manufacturing Engineer for an established leader in automotive automation and material-handling systems.
The Manufacturing Engineer will design, implement, and continuously improve manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, and production layouts. This hands-on role will focus on Lean manufacturing, process optimization, capital equipment projects, quality improvement, cost reduction, new product introductions, and increasing production throughput.
This position reports to the Production Manager and works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Planning, and IT.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, evaluate, document, and improve manufacturing processes and process-control procedures.
- Analyze manufacturing workflows to improve quality, reduce costs, eliminate bottlenecks, and increase throughput.
- Design manufacturing processes for new products, product changes, fixtures, tooling, and equipment.
- Support new product introductions from planning through production launch.
- Lead Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, waste-reduction, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Apply structured problem-solving methods, statistical analysis, and Design of Experiments to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Lead capital equipment projects valued at $500,000 or more, including scope development, ROI analysis, budgets, cost estimates, equipment specifications, bid documents, vendor selection, validation, and operating procedures.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, deliverables, and cross-functional communication.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing and quality documentation, including Control Plans, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, FAI, SPC, engineering changes, deviations, and corrective and preventive actions.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and provide technical support to production teams.
- Monitor manufacturing metrics and quality data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Design efficient plant layouts, workstations, material-flow systems, and equipment arrangements.
- Support Total Productive Maintenance, early equipment management, standard work, material presentation, and single-piece flow.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Design Engineering on product design, tooling, manufacturability, and production readiness.
- Develop and coordinate technical training for manufacturing employees.
- Consult with vendors regarding equipment, product specifications, parts, materials, and quality requirements.
- Use SQL, Power BI, and other data-visualization tools to collect, analyze, and communicate manufacturing data.
- Partner with IT on projects designed to improve software efficiency, data collection, and paperless manufacturing.
- Support CNC, robotic, and press-brake programming activities.
- Ensure manufacturing processes comply with the company’s quality management system and applicable requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- At least five years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Practical experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement principles.
- Experience developing and improving manufacturing processes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Strong analytical, strategic-thinking, and root-cause problem-solving skills.
- Experience using statistical data analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, IT, vendors, and customers.
- Technical aptitude and the ability to learn new equipment, technologies, and software.
- Ability to travel within the United States up to 20%.
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or holidays when business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive, automation, or material-handling manufacturing experience.
- Experience with APQP, PFMEA, PPAP, SPC, CAPA, and Design of Experiments.
- Experience managing capital equipment projects valued at $500,000 or more.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with SQL, Power BI, or other manufacturing data-analysis tools.
- Knowledge of CNC, robotic, or press-brake offline programming.
- Experience with tooling, equipment validation, plant layouts, and production launches.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, reach, and twist throughout the workday.
- Ability to repeatedly lift between 25 and 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with cranes, forklifts, power tools, grinding dust, fumes, odors, vibration, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to work around normal manufacturing noise levels.
- Safety-toe shoes or boots and safety glasses are required.
