Travel: 40%–60%
Job Summary
We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to support instrument installations, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and general after-sales technical support. The position will be based in the Baltimore-area office/laboratory and will involve regular travel to customer facilities.
The ideal candidate will have a background in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Food Science, laboratory experience, and knowledge of Gas Chromatography (GC) or Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain laboratory instruments at company and customer locations.
- Perform preventative maintenance and provide technical support to customers.
- Provide post-sales technical and application support.
- Train and coach customers on the proper use of laboratory instruments and applications.
- Provide hands-on laboratory support for new application development and technical issues.
- Diagnose and resolve instrument and system problems.
- Maintain strong customer relationships through professional and responsive communication.
- Document customer interactions, service activities, and technical issues using Microsoft tools and CRM/Salesforce systems.
- Prepare detailed site reports and quality-management documentation.
- Work closely with Sales, Service, Laboratory, and other operational teams.
- Manage travel, schedules, and service activities effectively to meet customer and business objectives.
- Work independently when required while contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, technical knowledge, integrity, and accountability.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of Gas Chromatography (GC) or GC-MS applications.
- Strong understanding of chemistry and/or food science.
- Laboratory equipment experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent analytical and application skills.
- Ability to train and coach customers.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to prepare quality and service reports.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM/Salesforce systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel 40%–60%.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 12 months of laboratory experience.
- Experience with commercial customer service is preferred but not required.
- Experience with laboratory instrumentation, GC, or GC-MS is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Customer training or technical training experience.
- Experience providing post-sales product instruction.
- Experience working directly with customers in person.
- Experience with quality-management systems and technical reporting.
- English language proficiency required.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
