Contract HR Specialist | Benefits, Retirement & Personnel Processing

Washington, DC | Hybrid
$40–$44/hour
Contract through December 2026, with possible extension
Paid Federal Holidays + Sick Leave


We’re seeking an experienced HR Specialist/Generalist to support a DC Government agency with critical federal HR operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional with strong knowledge of federal benefits, retirement programs, and personnel processing who can step in and contribute with minimal training.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide HR support related to FERS, CSRS, FEHB, FEGLI, TSP, and other federal employee programs.
  • Prepare retirement estimates, review service histories, and support retirement applications and processing.
  • Process and review personnel actions, including accessions, promotions, reassignments, separations, and pay changes.
  • Review employee records and documentation for accuracy and resolve benefits, retirement, and personnel discrepancies.
  • Respond to employee questions and provide knowledgeable guidance on benefits, retirement, and HR processes.
  • Coordinate with HR, payroll, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Utilize federal HR systems, including FPPS, FedHR, eOPF, USA Staffing, and related platforms.


What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting Federal HR operations, particularly benefits, retirement, and personnel processing.
  • Working knowledge of FERS/CSRS and federal employee benefits.
  • Prior experience with FPPS and FedHR strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage sensitive employee information with professionalism and discretion.
