Help Children and Families Create Meaningful, Lasting Change

Blue Kite Wellness provides accessible, compassionate, individualized, and holistic mental health services to children, teens, adults, and families. We are seeking an Intensive Home-Based Clinician (IHBC) to support children, youth, and families participating in the Illinois Pathways to Success program.

The IHBC provides individualized, short-term behavioral health services in the settings where children and families live and grow. This role develops assessment-informed intervention plans, provides therapeutic services focused on symptom reduction and improved family functioning, and offers clinical direction to Intensive Home-Based Support (IHBS) staff.

The clinician works collaboratively with youth, caregivers, Care Coordinators, Child and Family Team members, and other authorized providers. Services are strengths-based, family-centered, solution-focused, and informed by Managing and Adapting Practice (MAP) and other HFS-approved approaches.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide Intensive Home-Based Clinical services to children, youth, and families participating in the Illinois Pathways to Success program.
  • Use information from the youth’s IM+CANS, Functional Behavioral Assessment, clinical observations, family input, and Child and Family Team to develop and update individualized clinical interventions.
  • Deliver individual, family, and caregiver interventions focused on reducing symptoms, strengthening family functioning, and helping youth remain safely at home and in the community.
  • Help caregivers strengthen communication, problem-solving, coping, emotional-regulation, and behavioral-management skills.
  • Apply solution-focused strategies, Managing and Adapting Practice tools, and other HFS-approved approaches within your training and scope of practice.
  • Provide clinical direction to assigned Intensive Home-Based Support staff, with supervision and consultation available as you develop proficiency in the IHB service model.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, Care Coordinators, schools, crisis-response providers, and other members of the Child and Family Team.
  • Support crisis prevention, safety planning, de-escalation, and post-crisis follow-up within the clinician’s scope of practice.
  • Monitor client progress, communicate emerging needs or safety concerns, and adjust interventions in consultation with the supervisor and care team.
  • Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation and participate in supervision, case consultation, team meetings, and required training.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Meets current Illinois requirements for a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA), including all applicable education, licensure, supervision, credentialing, and scope-of-practice requirements.
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution.
  • Entry-level to early-career clinical experience is welcome, provided the candidate meets the applicable Illinois QMHP or LPHA qualifications.
  • Foundational knowledge of clinical assessment, treatment planning, client engagement, family intervention, crisis prevention, de-escalation, documentation, and care coordination.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with children, adolescents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Ability to accept and apply clinical supervision, consultation, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Ability to work independently in home and community settings while remaining connected to and supported by the clinical team.
  • Sound professional judgment, adaptability, appropriate boundaries, and the ability to communicate respectfully during stressful or emotionally charged situations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and protect confidential client and family information.
  • Willingness and ability to complete all required Blue Kite Wellness and Illinois Pathways training within established timeframes.
  • Reliable transportation, a current valid driver’s license, and current auto liability insurance for travel to client homes and community-based service locations.

Experience with complex behavioral health needs, family systems, crisis intervention, intensive or community-based services, Functional Behavioral Assessments, and evidence-informed clinical practice is strongly preferred.

Work Setting and Schedule

This is a field-based position involving frequent local travel and independent work in clients’ homes, schools when authorized, community locations, and office settings. Telehealth may be used when permitted by the service plan and program requirements.

Scheduling is based on youth and family needs and may include evening hours. Clinicians must be able to safely navigate varied home and community environments and respond professionally during stressful or emotionally charged situations. The role also requires appropriate availability and responsiveness consistent with IHB program expectations, including scheduled support outside traditional business hours when needed including evenings and one weekend day.

Compensation and Work Structure

  • Hourly direct client care: $40.00–$50.00 per hour
  • Hourly indirect and administrative work: $17.05 per hour
  • Sign-On Bonus: This position is eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus, paid in two installments: $1,000 after six months of employment and $1,000 after one year of employment.

Direct client care includes individual and family therapeutic services and applicable caregiver or team collaboration. Indirect and administrative work may include documentation, travel between client locations, care coordination, clinical supervision, required meetings, training, and professional-development activities. Hourly employees are paid based on actual hours worked.

Placement within the applicable compensation range is based on experience, licensure, credentials, and overall qualifications. Reimbursable mileage is paid at the current IRS standard mileage rate.
