Job Title: Mechanical Technician II

Location: Wilmington, NC 28405

Pay Rate: $24/hr on W2

Duration: 12+ Months

 

 Responsibilities 

  • Perform hands-on installation, setup, and troubleshooting of new or modified production equipment on the manufacturing floor.
  • Supervise and provide direction to maintenance staff and external contractors during equipment installation, conversion, and testing phases.
  • Ensure all project activities adhere to safety protocols, conduct safety analysis, identify hazards, and participate in incident investigations.
  • Review, update, and create installation documentation, drawings, checklists, and machine part lists as required.
  • Assess and recommend solutions for existing equipment fit, usability, and design improvements.
  • Redesign mechanical components to optimize cost, resolve interferences, and address design challenges.
  • Collaborate with external system integrators and machine builders to ensure on-time, on-budget equipment delivery and integration.
  • Provide training on installation procedures to internal teams and contractors.
  • Procure and expedite necessary materials for equipment build and installation.
  • Travel to other manufacturing sites in North Carolina as needed for project phases.

 

Required Skills and Experience 

  • AAS or BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering (equivalent hands-on experience may be considered).
  • Proficient in mechanical troubleshooting, use of hand tools, and alignment/measurement devices.
  • Strong understanding of process variables: flow, temperature, rate, pressure, level.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drive trains, electrical and pneumatic actuators.
  • Demonstrated emphasis on job site safety and proactive safety practices.
  • Effective team player with strong communication skills and the ability to present to project stakeholders.

 

Preferred Skills 

  • Experience with AutoCAD®, Inventor, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing or construction environments.
  • Familiarity with optical fiber manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with precision positioning and alignment devices, machine installation equipment, electronic calibration tools, and precision flow meters.
  • Demonstrated bias for action and proactive problem-solving mindset.
