Job Description
Title: Surgical Technologist (non-certified)
Positions Location: Ionia, MI
General Purpose of Job:
Under direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique.
- Assists the circulating nurse in the preparation of surgical procedures and during room turnovers between procedures.
- Prepares sterile field for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and supplies are available for use.
- During the surgical procedure:
- Anticipation of needs for surgeon and passing of instruments and supplies;
- Functions as assistant, when needed;
- Obtains counts with circulating nurse;
- Cares for specimens according to procedure;
- Maintains proper care of instruments and supplies when procedure is finished.
- Maintains equipment, supplies and environmental safety.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation.
- Maintains standards by participating in in-services, committees, etc.
- Decontaminating and preparation for sterilization of instruments utilized during surgical cases
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
General Requirements
- Current AHA BLS
Work Experience
- Completion of a Surgical Technologist program - OR - minimum of 2 years’ surgical technologist experience.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
