Key qualifications and experience:

  • Valid certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education (or state equivalent)
  • Previous experience teaching or supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Ability to adapt curriculum and instructional methods to meet diverse communication needs
  • Strong collaboration skills with teachers, families, and support staff
  • Proficiency with American Sign Language (ASL) and/or alternative communication systems is highly preferred
  • Excellent organizational and documentation abilities

Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs
  • Deliver instruction using various communication modes, ensuring accessibility for all learners
  • Coordinate with general education teachers to modify classroom materials and promote inclusion
  • Assess student progress, maintaining ongoing communication with families and related service providers
  • Serve as an advocate and resource for deaf and hard of hearing students within the school community
  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff collaboration, and professional development activities as needed
