Location: Foster City, CA 94404

Duration: 12+ Month Contract

Pay Rate: 50$-54$/hr. On W2 

Work Schedule: Onsite Position - Foster City - 5 days/week, occasional weekends as needed

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Associate Scientist – Biology II to support downstream bioprocessing and biologics process development activities within a pilot-scale laboratory environment. This role will focus on executing downstream purification processes, operating pilot-scale equipment, troubleshooting runs, and supporting scale-up and technology transfer activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute pilot-scale downstream purification processes, including clarification, chromatography, TFF, viral filtration, depth filtration, and centrifugation.
• Prepare buffers and reagents and set up, operate, clean, and tear down pilot-scale and single-use equipment.
• Operate ÄKTA systems and UNICORN software for chromatography runs.
• Pack and unpack chromatography columns and monitor purification processes.
• Document experiments and process activities using SOPs, batch records, run sheets, and technical summaries.
• Monitor process performance, analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
• Support process scale-up, comparability studies, technology transfer, and lab readiness activities.
• Follow applicable safety, quality, and documentation procedures.
• Provide occasional weekend or extended-hour support based on process requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with pilot-scale downstream bioprocessing/purification.
• Experience with chromatography and downstream unit operations such as TFF, viral filtration, depth filtration, or centrifugation.
• Experience with ÄKTA/UNICORN is highly preferred.
• Experience preparing buffers and operating laboratory or pilot-scale equipment.
• Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and technical communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Biologics or biopharmaceutical industry experience.
• Experience with single-use systems, GMP-adjacent environments, or manufacturing support.
• Experience with process scale-up, technology transfer, or comparability activities.
• End-to-end downstream purification experience rather than experience limited to a single unit operation.

Education

• BS/BE in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, OR
• AA/AS degree with 4+ years of relevant industry experience in downstream purification or bioprocessing.
