Boys Lacrosse - Head Varsity Coach
Director of Athletics
FLSA JOB CLASSIFICATION:Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Seasonal
JOB PURPOSE:The Head Varsity Coach is responsible for leading the Upper School’s varsity team as well as overseeing all sub-varsity programs, including middle school, in their specific sport. GDS is a member of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) and the Piedmont Triad Athletic Conference (PTAC). GDS competes in PTAC postseason championships and competes in the NCISAA state series. GDS follows the rules and regulations of the NCISAA and PTAC.
The Head Varsity Coach models the GDS Community Cornerstones of Respect, Kindness, Integrity, and Responsibility.
This position has a variable schedule that requires regular evening and possible weekend hours. The 2027 Boys Lacrosse season officially starts on February 15, 2027. The season concludes on May 15, 2027, with the NCISAA State Championships. In addition, the head varsity coach will be responsible for coordinating off-season workouts and practices within the guidelines of the NCISAA.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Coaches the Varsity team educating students on the rules of the game and proper etiquette following NFHS, NCISAA, and GDS guidelines
With the Director of Athletics, finds qualified assistant coaches to serve at the varsity and sub-varsity levels
Maintains a clear practice schedule
Maintains equipment and inventory including team uniforms
Supervises students on bus to away matches, during practices, and home and away games
Updates practice schedule and communications on myGDS
Updates rosters, schedules, and scores on MaxPreps and myGDS
Communicates with parents each week on upcoming practice and game schedule
Works with the assistant athletic director on creating a competitive and balanced schedule
Completes and has an understanding of documents and courses related to such areas as coaching expectations, concussion awareness, GDS emergency action plans, and sudden cardiac emergency awareness
Understands the regulations and policies of the NCISAA
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or the Head of School
