BioPhase Solutions specializes in recruiting top talented professionals for Southern California's Scientific community. We are currently looking for a Research Technician – Microbiology (Part-Time) to work for a Greater Los Angeles area tech company.
 
Pay Rate: $25/hour
Part-time: 25-30 hours/week with possible increase later
Contract: 6+ months
 
Summary:
We are seeking a part-time Research Technician to support our client’s routine microbiology and fungal-cultivation activities. The technician will primarily perform high-throughput agar-plate inoculation and culture maintenance while following established aseptic procedures and laboratory safety requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Aseptically inoculate and cultivate up to 200 agar plates per day.
  • Perform microbial and fungal culture work inside a biosafety cabinet.
  • Prepare, label, organize, incubate, and track agar plates and cultures.
  • Monitor cultures for growth, contamination, and other abnormalities.
  • Prepare culture media, buffers, and other routine laboratory materials.
  • Sterilize glassware, instruments, media, and laboratory supplies using an autoclave and other approved methods.
  • Decontaminate work surfaces and properly handle biological waste.
  • Wear required PPE and follow applicable biosafety procedures and laboratory SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records, culture inventories, and sample labels.
  • Assist with general wet-lab duties, supply organization, and laboratory upkeep as needed.
  • Communicate promptly with research staff regarding contamination, equipment issues or deviations from established procedures.
Experience:
  • Basic microbiology and wet-laboratory experience.
  • Hands-on experience with aseptic technique and microbial culture.
  • Familiarity with agar-plate inoculation, media preparation, pipetting, and culture maintenance.
  • Comfortable working in a biosafety cabinet and wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Ability to follow written SOPs and perform repetitive laboratory procedures accurately and consistently.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and sample-tracking skills.=
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred.
  • Experience cultivating fungi is helpful but not required
