Job Title: Patient Access Representative (Registration & Scheduling)
Job Summary: We are seeking an organized, customer-focused Patient Access Representative to join our healthcare access team. In this role, you will manage patient scheduling, pre-admission, registration, insurance verification, and authorization across multiple outpatient clinics and acute care areas, including the Emergency Department. You will serve as a primary liaison between patients, clinical teams, and physician practices to ensure smooth, HIPAA-compliant healthcare operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Registration & Intake: Greet patients, capture complete demographic and financial data, enter information accurately into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and collect required legal consent forms (Advance Directives, Conditions of Service, EMTALA, etc.).
- Central Scheduling: Coordinate and schedule outpatient ancillary services, laboratory tests, diagnostic radiology exams, and surgical procedures in collaboration with clinical departments and referring providers.
- Insurance Verification & Authorizations: Verify insurance eligibility and benefits via electronic portals; secure required pre-authorizations for inpatient admissions, outpatient procedures, and specialty clinic visits within mandated timelines.
- Cross-Departmental Coverage: Perform patient registration across multiple service lines, including the Emergency Department, Laboratory, Radiology, Oncology, Cardiology, and Surgical Services.
- Customer Service & Compliance: Provide compassionate patient communication via phone and in-person, uphold strict HIPAA confidentiality, and maintain an organized, clutter-free clinical work space.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Experience: 2–3 years of current, relevant patient access, registration, or scheduling experience in a medical setting [Required].
- Medical Knowledge: Proficient in medical terminology and healthcare billing/insurance workflows [Required].
- Systems Proficiency: Experience with EMR systems (Paragon software knowledge preferred).
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalency [Required].
- Core Competencies: Exceptional attention to detail, strong multitasking abilities, excellent phone etiquette, and ability to work collaboratively across clinical teams.
