Statement of Primary Purpose

The Adjunct Clinical Dentist supports the Director of  Allied Dental in classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction. The position provides clinical dentistry services and instruction to Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting students, including local anesthetic administration for Dental Hygiene students. The individual provides clinical supervision, guidance, and evaluation to ensure students develop safe and competent clinical skills. The position also maintains positive, professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, patients, and clinical affiliates while supporting a high quality educational experience.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

·         Participate in program assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation activities to support continuous improvement of instructional quality and program outcomes.

·         Provide classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction and supervision to support student development of clinical and technical skill proficiency.

·         Review, interpret, and evaluate student radiographs, including consultation regarding pathology.

·         Provide dental care to a diverse patient population within the Dental Clinic.

·         Supervise and evaluate students in clinical settings, applying professional knowledge, expertise, and flexibility to promote patient safety and student learning.

·         Conduct and participate in clinical site visits, as appropriate, to evaluate student performance, support clinical affiliates, and promote alignment between clinical education and program outcomes.

·         Create and maintain a learning environment that challenges, engages, and supports students while promoting professionalism, respect, and student success.

·         Ensure course and program learning outcomes are effectively delivered and assessed in accordance with approved course outlines, syllabi, program objectives, and applicable standards.

·         Collaborate with departmental personnel on curriculum development and revisions to reflect current trends, technologies, and professional standards and maintain compliance with applicable accreditation and institutional requirements.

·         Maintain accurate and complete instructional records, student evaluations, clinical documentation, and other required program records.

·         Participate in program advisory committee meetings, accreditation activities, departmental meetings, student evaluations of instruction, and other program initiatives as appropriate.

·         Represent the College in a professional manner when interacting with students, faculty, staff, clinical affiliates, patients, community partners, and the public.

·         Maintain all required professional credentials and licensure in accordance with College, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.

·         Participate in professional development activities to maintain and enhance clinical and instructional expertise.

·         Serve as a professional resource to the Allied Dental program and broader community.

·         Submit required College reports, documentation, and records accurately and within established deadlines.

·         Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Allied Dental.

·         Adhere to all college, program, and accreditation policies and procedures.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Allied Dental Program, division, and the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the College.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Must be a graduate of an accredited Dental program and hold academic and/or professional credentials appropriate to the assigned subject content area.

Knowledge and Skills

A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the dental field or related clinical practice is required.

Physical Demands

Demonstrate proficiency in the operation, maintenance, and instructional use of all Dental program related laboratory, simulation, and clinical equipment, and effectively train students in the safe and appropriate use of such equipment.

Licensing Requirement

Possess and maintain a current unrestricted North Carolina Dental License.

Possess and maintain a current unrestricted DEA License.

Possess a current Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider certification.

Possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License and the ability to travel to clinical education sites and other locations as required.

Working Conditions and Environment

Ability to travel routinely throughout and beyond the College’s service area to clinical education sites, healthcare partners, and other program related locations, including occasional overnight travel for professional development activities, conferences, accreditation meetings, and other job related events.

Equipment Operation

Ability to demonstrate and operate all equipment required to perform the duties in clinical, laboratory, and instructional settings. Ability to effectively use standard office equipment and learning management systems (LMS) to support instructional, administrative, and communication functions.
