Job Description
Medical Lab Tech
Calvert Internal Medicine is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join our physician office laboratory in Prince Frederick, Maryland. The ideal candidate is ASCP, AMT, or equivalently certified and has experience working as a generalist in a clinical laboratory setting.
This is a part-time position scheduled for three weekdays per week, with rotating half-day Saturday shifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Receive, handle, accession, and process laboratory specimens according to established policies and procedures.
Perform laboratory testing on STAT, routine, pre-operative, and daily specimens following laboratory SOPs.
Complete end-of-shift shutdown procedures.
Perform and document quality control procedures in accordance with laboratory standards.
Demonstrate ongoing proficiency through successful completion of proficiency testing.
Maintain laboratory inventory by monitoring supplies, rotating stock, and notifying the Laboratory Supervisor of shortages.
Clean and maintain the laboratory work area daily and dispose of waste according to established safety policies.
Communicate STAT and critical ("alert value") laboratory results promptly to the appropriate healthcare provider and report all completed patient results in a timely manner.
Assist clinical staff with troubleshooting point-of-care testing (POCT) devices.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Answer telephone calls and assist physicians, staff, and other internal customers as needed.
Attend required departmental and organizational meetings.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Comply with all OSHA, CLIA, COLA, and applicable regulatory standards.
Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
ASCP, AMT, or equivalent laboratory certification is required.
Minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience as a generalist preferred.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative healthcare team.
