Medical Assistant

 

Join our team at Children’s Cardiology Clinic, a Division of Florida Pediatric Associates and play a key role in delivering compassionate, high-quality care to our patients. In this position, you will support healthcare providers, contribute to a positive patient experience, and be part of a collaborative, patient-focused team dedicated to making every visit meaningful.

 

This position is Part-Time (2-3 days per week)

 

Position Summary:

The Part-Time Medical Assistant supports the clinical operations of the practice by assisting the provider with patient care and helping maintain an efficient patient flow. This position is responsible for preparing patients for their visits, obtaining and documenting vital signs and medical information, performing ECGs and cardiac monitors. 

 

As a part-time position, responsibilities should remain focused primarily on direct clinical support and assigned medical-assisting duties during scheduled working hours. 

 

Education, Training, and Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

 

Experience

  • One year of Medical Assistant experience in a medical practice.

Skills

  • Working Knowledge of:
    • Medical equipment and clinical instruments
    • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient intake, including obtaining and accurately documenting vital signs, medical history, and relevant patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). 
  • Perform electrocardiograms (ECGs/EKGs) as ordered and ensure results are properly documented.
  • Apply ambulatory cardiac monitors as ordered and provide patients and/or caregivers with clear instructions regarding device use, monitoring procedures, symptom documentation, and return requirements.
  • Prepare patient charts prior to appointments by gathering, reviewing, and organizing relevant medical records, prior test results, and previous documentation for provider evaluation.
  • Prepare and process referrals and supporting clinical documentation as directed.
  • Perform accurate and timely data entry into the EMR and other designated clinical systems.
  • Prepare cardiac evaluation and clearance forms for practitioner review and completion, including documentation related to sports physicals, dental procedures, surgeries, and other requested procedures.
  • Process and forward medical records as authorized and in accordance with office procedures and applicable privacy requirements.
  • Clean and disinfect examination rooms, clinical equipment, and patient-care areas between patients in accordance with OSHA requirements, infection-control standards, and office protocols.
  • Provide patients and caregivers with appropriate educational materials and instructions related to diagnostic testing, cardiac monitoring, and other ordered services.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, caregivers, provider, and staff in person, by telephone, and through approved electronic communication methods. Utilize Microsoft Teams and email to communicate and coordinate with providers and staff regarding patient care, referrals, medical records, clinical tasks, and office workflow.
  • Support efficient patient flow and coordinate with staff to ensure patients are appropriately prepared for testing.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control, patient-safety, and organizational policies and procedures.
