Position Overview
We are seeking a Paint Prep 1 Technician to support surface preparation processes and help achieve high-quality (Class A, B, or C) cosmetic finishes after painting. This role requires executing basic paint prep techniques, maintaining safety and 6S standards, and supporting team productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Surface Preparation & Prep Work: Perform scuff sanding for paint adhesion, cleaning, and hanging parts in preparation for coating processes.
Finishing & De-Masking: Safely remove paint masking, inspect de-masked parts, clear paint burrs, and report quality issues to leadership.
Quality & Specifications: Review and follow Detailed Paint Process Instructions (DPPI), work instructions, and Epicor job comments to ensure parts meet company and customer requirements.
Equipment & Tools: Utilize hand tools, including orbital sanders and grinders; recognize grit ratings and oscillation types.
Safety & Workplace Standards: Adhere to all safety rules, maintain a clean workspace utilizing 6S practices, and report equipment or material defects promptly.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Tool & Process Proficiency: Ability to run single-process equipment with minimal supervision and safely use standard hand tools and finishing equipment.
Blueprint & Instruction Reading: Capability to read and follow detailed written instructions, basic math, and verbal directives.
Quality Focus: Basic understanding of part inspection processes and instruments relevant to prep tasks.
Adaptability: Willingness to cross-train, assist other departments during high-demand periods, and suggest process improvements.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to stand and perform repetitive tasks for an entire 8-hour shift.
Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
Commitment to wearing required PPE at all times (eye protection and gloves continuously; dust masks and ear protection in prep areas).
Basic computer skills and flexibility to adjust schedule or shift as needed.
