The primary purpose of this position is to help Community Credit Union of Florida fulfill its Mission: “Always improve the financial well-being of our members and make a positive difference in the communities we serve.” The VP, Commercial Loan Officer develops and services commercial relationships, originates loans, and grows the Credit Union’s commercial loan and deposit portfolios. This position evaluates credit risk, recommends appropriate loan structures and terms, and ensures that loan documentation is complete and accurate. The incumbent complies with internal policies and procedures and all applicable state and federal regulations, achieves established individual and departmental goals, and conducts lending activities in the best interests of members and the Credit Union.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1)    Meets or exceeds assigned production and activity goals. Engages in business development activities and is responsible for growing the Commercial Loan and Deposit portfolio through increased market penetration with a concentration in commercial real estate lending. Proactively develops and deepens relationships with centers of influence, including business owners, investors, developers, brokers, and other area professionals. 

2)    Develops strategies to expand existing markets and enter new markets. Tracks and analyzes economic and competitive trends, recommends appropriate actions to senior leadership, and adopts effective business development and marketing strategies to advance the Credit Union’s interests and increase portfolio balances.

3)    Researches and evaluates the feasibility of new lending products and recommends enhancements. Develops and implements plans to expand commercial lending programs, monitors industry developments and lending trends, and recommends actions that strengthen competitiveness.

4)    Analyzes and interprets financial statements, tax returns, project budgets, appraisals, environmental studies, and other relevant documentation to identify, assess, quantify, and control lending risk. Recommends appropriate loan structures and terms and applies consistent decision-making practices to inquiries, approvals, and requests in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.

5)    Periodically assesses financial statements, tax returns, and other relevant documents pertaining to existing loans and may recommend risk rating adjustments as defined by policies and procedures. The incumbent completes an annual site visit of each commercial property to cultivate an ongoing relationship and assist in the risk rating determination.

6)    Maintains a thorough knowledge of credit union membership/loan policy, dividend rates, interest rates, and required document disclosures and ensures audit compliance, procedural quality control, and recommends and initiates corrective actions. 

7)    Contributes to the Credit Union’s overall financial health by implementing cost controls, applying appropriate rates and fees, and monitoring expenses against budget. Collaborates with team members to deliver high-quality member service.

8)    Maintains ongoing communication with the immediate supervisor and others directly related, informing them of all pertinent problems, irregularities, new developments, changes, and other important information that could potentially impact the Credit Union’s interests.

9)    Represents CCU in community, business, and service organizations to enhance market visibility and penetration. 

10)    Follows policies and procedures related to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) to maintain compliance with current regulations.

11)    Performs other related duties and works on special projects as assigned.

12)    Demonstrates enthusiastic support of corporate mission, core values, and long-term objectives by performing job duties within our bylaws, regulations, Board of Directors policies, established internal and external service standards, and our work procedures while possessing adequate product knowledge as measured by the annual product knowledge assessment.

13)    Delivers service to both internal and external members that is in alignment with the credit union’s Service Promises and meets all established service goals.

15)    Assists in attaining established departmental goals and adhering to all credit union standard operating policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations and guidelines.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The qualifications below represent the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities typically required to perform this position successfully. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.

•    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of directly related commercial lending experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant education and training must be applicable to the financial services industry.

•    Minimum of five (5) years of experience in commercial sales and underwriting, with a demonstrated record of building and servicing local loan and deposit portfolios and deepening commercial relationships.

•    Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial statements, complex credit structures, financial data, and tax returns and to recommend sound credit decisions. Credit analyst experience is preferred. In-depth knowledge of applicable state and federal compliance requirements is required.

•    Excellent organizational, leadership, coaching, and training skills, with the ability to share knowledge and support the development of team members across the department and Credit Union.

•    Demonstrated digital aptitude with the ability to leverage commercial lending systems, workflows, and technologies to enhance efficiency and risk management.

•    Advanced quantitative skills, including the ability to calculate interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, rates, and ratios; balance accounts; identify mathematical errors; and interpret graphs, financial data, and technical documents.    

•    Ability to manage the commercial credit request process from the initial credit interview through document collection, underwriting, and preparation of the credit memorandum.  Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to interpret documents and procedures, prepare reports and correspondence, provide instructions, and communicate clearly with members and team members.

•    Ability to plan individual and departmental activities by setting objectives, developing strategies, preparing budgets, and establishing policies and procedures. Demonstrates initiative in organizing the functions necessary to achieve departmental and Credit Union objectives.

•    Current Florida driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.

The incumbent must be able to perform this role safely, without endangering themselves or others.

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

This position operates primarily in a clean, comfortable, open-office environment and may involve minor distractions such as noise, odors, or drafts. The role requires driving approximately 75% of the time. Hybrid work options may be available based on business needs.

The incumbent must be able to read and interpret documents and financial instruments; perform detailed work; apply analytical reasoning and mathematical skills; assist with problem-solving; conduct meetings and presentations; prepare clear written communications; manage multiple concurrent priorities and frequent interruptions; and work effectively under pressure. Excellent member-contact and verbal and written communication skills are required.
