Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Tool Grinder responsible for sharpening and maintaining various precision cutting tools, including milling cutters, drills, taps, and turning tools.

This position will also manufacture special form-relieved cutters, maintain cutter-grinding supplies, perform routine equipment maintenance, and ensure finished tooling meets established quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Sharpen milling cutters, drills, taps, turning tools, and other precision cutting tools.
  • Manufacture special form-relieved cutters as required.
  • Set up and operate grinding equipment safely and accurately.
  • Inspect finished tools and products to ensure they meet quality specifications.
  • Use precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, depth gauges, and size blocks.
  • Monitor gauges, dials, and machine indicators to ensure equipment is operating properly.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and identify when additional maintenance or repairs are required.
  • Maintain inventory of cutter-grinding tools and supplies.
  • Apply knowledge of raw materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, and quality-control procedures.
  • Conduct tests and inspections to evaluate product and process quality.
  • Troubleshoot tooling and equipment issues using logic and sound judgment.
  • Maintain accurate quality and production records.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with tool grinding, cutter grinding, precision grinding, or related machining work.
  • Knowledge of machines, cutting tools, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong shop math and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of GD&T is beneficial.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of performing precise, meticulous work.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to maintain focus while performing detailed precision work.
