About this job
Job Description
The Elite Nanny Team is recruiting a highly engaged Full-Time Therapist Nanny for a toddler with developmental delays in McLean, Virginia. This is a unique opportunity for a professional nanny with Occupational Therapy (OT) or Physical Therapy (PT) training or experience who wants to combine specialized developmental support with the warmth, creativity, and engagement of professional childcare.
The family is seeking a hands-on, energetic, development-focused nanny who genuinely enjoys teaching young children and understands that everyday moments can become meaningful learning opportunities.
Whether you are helping a child notice the green, yellow, and orange leaves during a walk, encouraging proper utensil grasp during meals, practicing movement and coordination, or supporting emerging language skills, you will actively participate in his development throughout the day.
About the Family and Role
This is a professional household of four with an established full-time nanny who primarily supports the older child and assists with household responsibilities. The new Therapist Nanny will work alongside this nanny as part of the family's childcare team, focusing primarily on the younger child's developmental needs.
The toddler has developmental delays, speech difficulties, and challenges with coordination and movement. His parents are committed to providing him with opportunities to build skills, confidence, independence, and functional abilities.
This position is ideal for someone who understands that developmental progress takes patience, consistency, repetition, creativity, and encouragement. The family is not expecting a nanny to "cure" their son's developmental differences. Instead, they want someone who recognizes his abilities, celebrates his progress, reinforces his therapy goals, and motivates him to continue working toward achievable milestones.
You will provide one-on-one developmental support while reinforcing physical therapy, occupational therapy, feeding therapy, and language-development strategies throughout the child's daily routine.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport the child safely to occupational therapy, physical therapy, feeding therapy, and other developmental appointments.
- Reinforce therapist-recommended OT and PT exercises and developmental activities throughout the day.
- Support gross-motor development and help build strength in the legs, arms, core, and jaw.
- Encourage improved balance, coordination, body awareness, and functional movement.
- Promote emerging language and communication skills through conversation, play, books, songs, and daily activities.
- Reinforce feeding and self-help skills, including appropriate utensil grasp and age-appropriate independence.
- Integrate developmental practice naturally into walks, play, meals, outings, and everyday routines.
- Create engaging activities that encourage the child to participate rather than simply complete exercises.
- Help the child work toward developmental milestones established with his professional therapy team.
- Encourage confidence, curiosity, independence, and a willingness to try.
- Maintain a consistently positive, patient, and encouraging attitude.
- Make learning active, playful, and enjoyable.
- Communicate effectively with parents, therapists, and the family's other nanny.
- Work cooperatively as part of a professional household staffing team.
Schedule and Compensation
Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Compensation: $26–$32 per hour, based on qualifications, professional experience, and specialized OT/PT expertise.
This is a full-time, long-term nanny position for a candidate who wants to make a meaningful difference in a child's daily development while becoming an integral member of a professional household team.
Therapist Nanny Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a combination of professional nanny experience and Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy training.
Required qualifications include:
- At least 3 years of private nanny experience.
- At least 2 years of Occupational Therapy (OT) or Physical Therapy (PT) education, training, or professional work experience.
- Candidates currently pursuing a career as a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, or related pediatric therapy professional are encouraged to apply.
- A college or university degree from an accredited two- or four-year institution.
- Valid U.S. work authorization, either through U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States.
- A valid driver's license.
- A clean motor vehicle record for the previous five years.
- Current residence within 15 miles of McLean, Virginia.
- A reliable personal vehicle that can safely accommodate two car seats in an emergency.
- Hands-on experience working with toddlers or young children.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- An energetic personality that can consistently engage an active young toddler.
The Ideal Therapist Nanny
The ideal candidate may be working toward becoming a licensed Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist, or may already have significant pediatric OT/PT training or experience.
Most importantly, you love working with children.
You naturally look for opportunities to teach, encourage, practice, and celebrate progress. You are comfortable working one-on-one with a child while also contributing to a collaborative household environment.
You are proactive rather than waiting to be told what needs to happen. You take initiative, bring positive energy into the home, and understand how to turn ordinary routines into opportunities for learning and development.
If people describe you as energetic, compassionate, motivated, observant, creative, and always on the go, this may be an excellent opportunity for you.

Great Pay
Nannies recruited through The Elite Nanny Team typically start at $19.00 an hour and can earn up to $60.00 an hour based on experience and expectations. The average salary of our nannies is between $27.00 and $45.00 an hour. As a professional nanny, you are a hard worker!! Caregivers often have bachelor's degrees or an Early Childhood Education degree. However, unlike in Europe, nannies do not receive formal training in college, which puts a ceiling on reasonable salary expectations. In addition, the employer sets hourly wages and compensation, not the TENT Group.
Vacation Packages
Our employment agency and nanny recruiting service strongly recommend that families offer a substantial vacation package to prevent burnout. These packages are performance-based and vary from one week to six weeks. Often, the family will choose half of the scheduled vacation days you take, and you choose the remaining days based on your personal needs. In addition, some families offer sick pay if you have to call out because of a fever, a sick child, or an uncontrollable cough. Your nanny boss will decide which vacation days s/he can offer, including national holidays, sick days, and paid time off. It is important to TENT and our clients that you, the babysitter, balance life and work properly. We want to ensure you are fully dedicated to your nanny families while comfortably managing your own life.
Personalized Contracts
You and your employer receive a personalized contract, developed by The Elite Nanny Team, to set expectations, start communication, and establish boundaries. We take information from both parties to develop a working relationship. Your work contract will state your hours, the number of children you are expected to watch, and the family's duties. It also outlines specific rules the family wants to follow, tasks you will be responsible for (like cleaning and cooking), and whether you will do only the children's laundry or both the children's and the parents' laundry. If you use your car to take the kids to school, activities, or appointments, your contract will promise to reimburse you for using your vehicle and paying for gas. It also explains how taxes, Social Security, state taxes, and unemployment will be handled. Your employer may cover these costs, while others may want you to manage your taxes. A contract creates a strong work environment where transparency is critical, fairness is valued, and respect is fostered between employees and employers. We favor an open-door policy, and you are always welcome to come to us with concerns, questions, or requests.
