Position: Medical Director
An established and growing integrative and functional medicine practice in San Antonio, Texas, is seeking an experienced Medical Director (MD/DO) to lead clinical operations, oversee patient care standards, and support the professional development of its clinical team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a physician who combines strong clinical expertise with a collaborative leadership style and a passion for whole-person, patient-centered care.
The Medical Director will play a key role in guiding clinical decision-making, supporting advanced practice providers, establishing consistent care protocols, and ensuring high standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care & OversightProvide direct patient care within an integrative and functional medicine setting.
Evaluate and guide individualized treatment plans, ensuring clinical appropriateness and patient safety.
Prescribe and manage medications, diagnostic testing, and therapies in accordance with established medical standards.
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
Serve as the primary medical authority for clinical decision-making.
Provide clinical oversight, supervision, and guidance to nurse practitioners and other prescribing providers.
Act as the escalation point for complex or higher-risk patient cases.
Develop, implement, and refine clinical guidelines, protocols, and treatment pathways.
Promote consistency in clinical practices while allowing appropriate provider autonomy.
Reinforce adherence to patient safety standards and evidence-informed care.
Mentor and support clinical providers through clear expectations, constructive feedback, and collaborative leadership.
Foster a respectful, professional, and patient-centered work environment.
Support provider confidence and consistency in delivering quality care.
Lead by example through accountability, reliability, and sound clinical judgment.
Partner with practice leadership to align clinical operations with workflows, training, and organizational goals.
Provide clinical input on staffing, provider development, and care delivery improvements.
Support initiatives that improve patient safety, efficiency, and consistency.
Collaborate with administrative leadership while maintaining appropriate boundaries between clinical and operational responsibilities.
MD or DO degree with an active, unrestricted Texas medical license.
Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or a comparable specialty.
Experience supervising or collaborating with nurse practitioners and advanced practice providers.
Prior medical leadership, clinical oversight, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage complex medical situations.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Ability to lead with consistency, professionalism, and accountability.
Experience in integrative or functional medicine preferred but not required.
Willingness to learn and embrace a whole-person approach to patient care.
