Job Description
Location: Montgomery, Alabama
Engagement: W2 long-term contract through with a contract-to-hire path for strong performers
Position Summary
Support startup, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems on large-scale data center construction projects. Working on site with engineering leads and trade partners, this role troubleshoots chillers, valves, rooftop units, fan arrays, PLC controls, hard-wired inputs and outputs, and Modbus communications through point-to-point Level 3 testing and turnover.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission and troubleshoot chillers, valve systems, rooftop units, fan arrays, and associated controls.
- Perform point-to-point Level 3 testing and verify hard-wired IO from field devices back to control panels.
- Diagnose PLC and Modbus issues; retrieve programs, make supervised edits, and download revised logic.
- Document deficiencies, confirm corrective work, and support safe, standards-based system turnover.
- Coordinate daily with commissioning leads, controls engineers, vendors, and site teams.
Required Qualifications
- Mid-level to senior experience in mechanical commissioning, HVAC controls, industrial controls, or mission-critical facilities.
- Demonstrated chiller startup, staging, and troubleshooting depth.
- Hands-on PLC troubleshooting and electrical print-reading ability; Schneider experience is preferred, while Rockwell/Allen-Bradley or Siemens experience transfers well.
- Experience with hard-wired IO checkout and register-level Modbus troubleshooting.
- HVAC controls technicians with strong chiller depth may qualify alongside degreed engineers.
Work Requirements
This is an on-site role, Monday through Friday, beginning at 7:00 AM, with typical active-site weeks of approximately 45 hours. Candidates must commit to relocation or full-week travel; partial-week, remote, and hybrid arrangements are not available.
