A well-established, privately held organization is seeking a Construction Accounting Manager to join its Phoenix team. This is a hands-on leadership role with direct exposure to the CFO and senior management, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations while supporting the financial performance of active construction projects.
The ideal candidate brings a strong construction accounting background, including WIP, job costing, progress billing, change orders, and project financial reporting, along with experience leading an accounting team.
What You’ll DoOversee day-to-day accounting operations and accounting personnel
Manage the general ledger and support the monthly close process
Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, collections, and payroll
Prepare cash management reports, monitor cash flow, and identify potential financial concerns
Partner with Project Managers and department leaders to review project financial performance
Track and analyze WIP, job costs, project budgets, and construction-related variances
Support progress billing and change-order accounting
Maintain accurate financial records and effective internal controls
Prepare monthly financial and operational reporting for management
Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, compliance, insurance reporting, and other special projects
Help maintain and optimize Sage and other construction-related accounting systems
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
8+ years of accounting experience
3+ years of accounting management experience
3+ years of construction accounting experience required
Strong understanding of WIP and job costing
Experience with progress billing, change orders, and project budgets
Strong month-end close, GL, reconciliation, and financial reporting experience
Experience overseeing AP, AR, payroll, and cash management
Strong Excel skills
Sage construction accounting software experience is highly preferred
Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Base salary up to $125,000, depending on experience.
