Not Eligible: OPT/CPT EAD candidates

Position Overview

The Georgia Department of Revenue is seeking an Application Developer to support the configuration, enhancement, testing, implementation, and production support of the FASTDS-VS® COTS application.

This position combines application configuration with hands-on software development. The selected candidate will gather and analyze requirements, configure application functionality and reference tables, manage user access permissions, develop application changes, troubleshoot software issues, write scripts, perform testing, prepare implementation specifications, and provide production support.

Candidates should have hands-on experience with SQL databases and object-oriented software development, along with a solid understanding of software development methodologies, coding standards, and development best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and document application requirements.
  • Configure functionality within the FASTDS-VS® COTS application.
  • Perform application and reference-table configuration.
  • Configure users, roles, and access permissions.
  • Develop and implement application change requests.
  • Write and maintain application scripts.
  • Troubleshoot and debug software issues.
  • Develop and execute application tests.
  • Prepare technical and implementation specifications.
  • Support production deployments and application operations.
  • Use source-control practices to manage application changes.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Follow established software-development standards and coding best practices.
  • Work within both traditional and Agile development methodologies.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer/Management Information Systems, Mathematics, or a closely related field
  • 2+ years of experience working with a SQL database
  • 2+ years of object-oriented software development experience using one or more of the following:
    • .NET
    • C#
    • Java
    • VB / VB.NET
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Software development methodologies
    • Development standards
    • Coding best practices

Highly Desired Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

  • Web services
  • APIs
  • AWS
  • SQL stored procedures
  • COTS application configuration
  • Application testing and debugging
  • Production application support
  • Source-control systems
  • Agile software-development environments

Important Eligibility & Compliance Requirements

Candidates should review these conditions carefully before applying:

  • Local candidates only
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card/Permanent Resident
  • OPT/CPT EAD candidates will not be considered
  • A Georgia Tax Clearance Letter is required at the time of submission
  • The Georgia Department of Revenue will conduct a background check
  • Candidates must be compliant with Georgia tax obligations
  • Individuals with overdue and unpaid Georgia taxes will not be eligible for hire
  • Per the client requirement, individuals with felony convictions will not be eligible for the position
  • Selected employees will be fingerprinted

Before You Apply

This role requires both SQL database experience and object-oriented development experience.

Candidates should have at least two years in each area.

This position is well suited to an application developer who is comfortable working across the full application lifecycle, including requirements, configuration, coding, testing, debugging, implementation, and production support.

Because this position supports an established COTS application, candidates should also be comfortable learning and configuring an existing enterprise platform rather than working exclusively on new application development.
