Staff Accountant

A mission-driven nonprofit housing organization in Downtown Los Angeles is seeking a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and help ensure accurate financial reporting across affordable housing and community development programs. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to an organization dedicated to expanding housing access and serving local communities.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and support month-end close
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and assist with financial reporting
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
• Assist with grant tracking, restricted funding, and program expense reporting
• Support annual audits and preparation of audit schedules
• Monitor budgets and variances for housing programs and properties
• Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within nonprofit, affordable housing, property management, or community development environments
• Understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
• Experience with grant reporting and fund accounting preferred
• Proficiency in Excel and accounting software such as Sage Intacct, MIP, Yardi, or QuickBooks
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
