Position Overview
The Laser Operator owns CNC laser cutting operations responsible for producing high-volume precision metal components within defined production targets. This role directly impacts throughput, scrap control, and machine utilization on the fabrication floor. The operator is accountable for machine setup, program execution, and troubleshooting to maintain production flow and dimensional accuracy. Performance is measured through output consistency, equipment uptime, and adherence to documented quality standards.

About the Opportunity
This role operates CNC laser cutting equipment supporting high-volume metal fabrication operations. The position is responsible for executing production runs, interpreting prints, monitoring machine performance, and correcting operational issues to maintain output targets. The operator works directly with raw sheet metal materials of varying grades and thicknesses while maintaining dimensional accuracy and quality compliance. Success in the role requires independent machine ownership and the ability to resolve equipment or programming issues during production.
What You'll Do
- Operate CNC laser cutting machines and automated material loaders during production runs
- Interpret blueprints, customer drawings, and quality documentation to ensure dimensional accuracy
- Adjust machine parameters and edit programs when production conditions require correction
- Monitor cutting operations to detect machine errors, alignment issues, or out-of-tolerance conditions
- Troubleshoot mechanical or control-related issues affecting machine performance
- Maintain required production rates across assigned cutting programs
- Track job progress and production quantities through shop floor computer systems
- Work with multiple sheet metal materials including varying grades and thickness specifications
- Follow established quality procedures supporting ISO-controlled production processes
What You'll Need
- Minimum 3 years operating CNC laser cutting equipment in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and fabrication drawings
- Experience adjusting CNC programs or machine parameters during production runs
- Familiarity with sheet metal materials and differences in material thickness and cutting characteristics
- General shop math capability for measurement and production calculations
- Basic computer capability for job tracking and production reporting
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended production shifts
- High school diploma or equivalent
