Job Description
Robotic AS/RS Maintenance Technologist Life in Customer Operations

Step onto the floor with Symbotic’s Customer Operations team, the group that steers daily performance of our robotic material handling system. You’ll partner closely with onsite customer teams to elevate safety, quality, and throughput every shift.

A day in this role

Your shift begins with a structured walkthrough of the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) — scanning health indicators on automated robotic vehicles and Automated Adapters/Lifts. You’ll monitor inbound and outbound flows (manual and automatic) to maximize cases per hour, then fine‑tune operations by adjusting, calibrating, repairing, replacing, or modifying components as needed.

When an automated robotic vehicle pauses or throws an anomaly, you dive into schematics and wiring diagrams, validate with advanced test equipment, and restore operation. You’ll recover vehicles in the Symbotic Matrix select system — sometimes working within restrictive spaces — and keep robotic arms dialed in through setup, calibration, and tool changes. Minor utility and fabrication work (machining holes or brackets, cutting steel, aligning sensors, attaching Unistrut) is part of your toolkit.

Throughout the day you log precise maintenance actions, parts usage, and labor in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). You communicate production‑impacting issues early, provide clear ETAs for corrective or emergency work, and pivot quickly as priorities change. You leave the work area better than you found it — cleaned, organized, and 5S‑ready — with replaced parts removed and Cell Operator tasks covered when needed. Other duties may be assigned by leadership.

What you bring
  • Associate degree or certification in electronics, automotive, automation, or manufacturing — or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • 3+ years working with mechanical automation systems or equivalent training.
  • Advanced troubleshooting capability; fluent with electro‑mechanical diagrams and test equipment.
  • Experience operating automated systems and troubleshooting PLC‑driven equipment.
  • Proficiency in inspection practices and independent work using procedures and manuals.
Working conditions
  • Climb steep stairs to access structure; routine work near elevated railings.
  • Indoor environment with exposure to temperature variation; able to work in 105°ree; to 32°ree; Fahrenheit.
  • Construction sites may require PPE: hard hat, safety vest, steel‑toe footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, and fall protection (e.g., safety harness).
  • Frequently lift up to 50 lbs safely and efficiently; move items up to 80 lbs.
  • Stand/walk 10–12 hours; frequent reaching.
  • Work at heights up to 45 ft and within restrictive areas of 24 inches; able to stand, climb/balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Capable of occasional/continuous feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive motion using both hands and feet.
  • Strict adherence to all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout and fall protection.
