Classroom Assistant | Harvey, Louisiana

Make a meaningful impact assisting students in specialized classroom settings! A contract opportunity awaits for an experienced paraprofessional committed to supporting learners with Autism and related disabilities. This full-time position, beginning as soon as possible and continuing through May 27, 2027, offers 35 hours per week according to the school calendar. You’ll work in lower student-to-teacher ratio classrooms, supporting students who communicate in complex ways and may exhibit challenging behaviors.

What you'll bring:

• At least an Associate’s Degree, or a ParaPro assessment score of 450+, or 48 semester credit hours (all are school district requirements)
• Prior hands-on classroom experience
• Confidence in reading and interpreting IEPs
• Familiarity working with children who have Autism and related disabilities
• Preferred but not required: CPI training, de-escalation techniques, experience managing significant behavior, CPR certification

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing direct support to students in individualized or small group settings
• Assisting with the implementation of IEP goals and behavior plans
• Collaborating closely with teachers, therapists, and specialists
• Maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment
• Employing de-escalation strategies and positive behavior supports when needed

The position requires passing a district-specific drug screening, fingerprinting, and an additional agency background check as part of a time-sensitive credentialing process.
