Qualifications & Experience
- Experience as a paraprofessional, teacher’s aide/assistant, or CNA, particularly in school or behavioral environments
- Ability to work effectively with students with medical needs, including those who are wheelchair-dependent
- Dedicated to supporting students with autism, multiple disabilities, or significant daily living needs
- For assistants: NYS Teacher’s Assistant Certification required
- For aides: School or preschool experience with behavioral challenges is preferred
- Compassionate, reliable, and able to follow specific care plans and educational programs
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or small group support based on student needs and classroom assignments
- Assist with daily living skills, including hygiene, mobility, and feeding, especially for nonverbal students
- Support instructional and academic activities under the guidance of a certified teacher
- Monitor student well-being and intervene as needed, upholding safety protocols
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and fellow aides to ensure a positive and effective learning atmosphere
- Participate in required professional development, including TCI Training (offered in late October)
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation as needed for student progress and daily activities
