About this job
The Quality Inspector role is responsible for inspecting a wide variety of parts, assemblies, tooling fixtures, and materials to ensure they meet customer requirements, company specifications, and applicable quality standards. Working under limited supervision, this position sets up, operates, inspects, tests, and adjusts new and reworked tools, dies, gauges, jigs, and fixtures for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications. The role also maintains, processes, and compiles confidential electronic and hard copy reports, records, and statistics, and handles non-routine assignments that require sound judgment to resolve moderately complex issues. Occasional inspections at customer or vendor sites may be required.
Responsibilities- Inspect machined parts, components, assemblies, and materials to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and industry standards such as Military Standards, ASTM, AWS, ANSI, and ASME Code.
- Prepare and deliver electronic and hard copy inspection reports and communicate results to appropriate stakeholders, including project engineers.
- Set up and operate measuring and test equipment, applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to verify part conformance.
- Operate Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM) or other portable metrology equipment to achieve part acceptance, including equipment setup and execution of final dimensional and in-process manufacturing inspections.
- Observe testing activities and provide quality oversight to verify compliance with applicable requirements and standards.
- Interact with and respond to regulatory agencies and customers during audits and reviews of inspection and calibration activities.
- Monitor and verify quality using statistical process control or other control procedures as required.
- Coordinate the procurement of standard materials, services, and parts needed to perform inspections.
- Maintain, update, and manage computer databases related to inspections, calibration, and quality records.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and company obligations whenever conducting business on behalf of the organization.
- Work safely at all times, following established operating procedures and practices.
- Travel to customer or vendor sites as needed to perform inspections or support quality activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall quality assurance function.
- Associate degree, trade school certificate, military training, or equivalent in quality inspection or a related field, or certification by a professional group such as ASQ or AWS.
- Three or more years of progressive experience in electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, or metrology inspection and calibration.
- Strong ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications and perform complex mathematical computations.
- Intermediate to subject matter expert-level knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Proficiency with hand inspection tools including micrometers, calipers, height gages, plug and ring gages, profilometers, and radius gages.
- Experience performing hand inspections and visual checks in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with CMM or Laser Tracker equipment for part acceptance.
- Working knowledge of metrology software such as PC-DMIS, Spatial Analyzer, or Polyworks.
- Experience with quality systems and standards including ISO 9001 and AS9100/9102.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interface with employees at all levels, including management.
- Ability to interpret complex information and respond to a variety of complex quality and inspection issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including the flexibility to work extended hours when required.
- Certification by professional organizations such as ASQ or AWS in quality or inspection disciplines.
- Experience with optical comparators, including Keyence vision systems, scanners, and Micro-Vu equipment.
- Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines, portable arms, and Laser Tracker equipment (such as LEICA models or similar) for part acceptance.
- Intermediate-level knowledge of coordinate metrology software, including PC-DMIS, Spatial Analyzer, or Polyworks.
- Strong data entry skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) quality assurance program requirements in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD clearance is desired.
- Familiarity with statistical process control and other quality control procedures.
- Experience preparing, updating, and maintaining electronic and hard copy quality records, reports, and statistics.
This position is based onsite at a manufacturing facility in Tupelo, Mississippi, working on a 4x10 schedule with four ten-hour days each week and Fridays off. The role is performed in a production and inspection environment that involves regular interaction with precision measurement equipment, inspection tools, optical comparators, CMMs, and metrology software. Work may occasionally require travel to customer or vendor locations to conduct inspections or support audits. The environment emphasizes adherence to established safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and quality standards, with a focus on accurate documentation and collaboration across engineering and quality teams.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.77 - $41.35/hr.
