Job Description
Shipyard Painters / Sprayers / Blasters
Location: Hampton Roads, VA
Tidewater Staffing is currently seeking experienced Shipyard Painters, Sprayers, and Blasters for opportunities throughout Hampton Roads.
We are looking for candidates with hands-on experience in surface preparation, abrasive blasting, power-tool preparation, spray painting, and marine or industrial coating applications.
Local and traveling candidates are encouraged to apply.
Job Duties
- Perform abrasive blasting to remove rust, scale, old coatings, and surface contaminants.
- Perform power-tool surface preparation, including grinding, sanding, needle-gunning, and related prep work.
- Prepare steel and other shipboard or industrial surfaces for coating applications.
- Apply marine and industrial coatings using conventional and airless spray equipment.
- Mix paints, primers, coatings, and related materials according to specifications.
- Mask, tape, and protect surrounding areas before blasting and painting operations.
- Perform brush-and-roll application, touch-up work, and coating repairs as required.
- Inspect completed work for proper coverage, finish, and quality standards.
- Maintain blasting, painting, and surface-preparation equipment.
- Follow applicable shipyard safety, PPE, and respiratory-protection requirements.
- Work aboard vessels, in dry docks, industrial facilities, confined spaces, and elevated work areas as required
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Shipyard Painter, Sprayer, Blaster, Marine Painter, Industrial Painter, or Powertooler.
- Experience with abrasive blasting, spray painting, power-tool surface preparation, and/or marine coating applications.
- Knowledge of surface-preparation and coating-application techniques.
- Comfortable performing active, hands-on work in shipyard and industrial environments.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly climb, bend, stoop, and move throughout work areas.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and varying environmental conditions as required by assignment.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Ability to meet applicable safety, screening, and worksite-access requirements.
Preferred Credentials & Experience
- C7, C10, C12, or other applicable coatings certifications
- SSPC/AMPP, NACE, NBPI, or related coatings credentials
- OSHA 10 Maritime
- TWIC
- Current or previous DBIDS credential
- Previous naval, commercial shipyard, or industrial coatings experience
