Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join a Patient Service Floater team. This position provides phlebotomy and specimen processing support across multiple patient service centers and clinic locations within a designated region.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in different healthcare environments, adapting to new teams and workflows, and traveling as needed to provide coverage. This is a great opportunity for a phlebotomist who enjoys variety and is looking to expand their experience across multiple clinical settings.
Responsibilities
Perform venipunctures, capillary collections, and non-blood specimen collections.
Properly identify patients and accurately collect, label, and process specimens.
Centrifuge, split, freeze, package, and prepare specimens according to laboratory requirements.
Enter patient demographics, insurance information, and laboratory orders accurately.
Contact provider offices to verify missing orders, diagnosis codes, or patient information.
Maintain clean and compliant collection areas and follow all laboratory safety and HIPAA requirements.
Properly dispose of biohazard materials and sharps and utilize appropriate PPE.
Maintain accurate patient collection and travel logs.
Monitor inventory and report supply shortages.
Provide professional and compassionate service to patients, providers, and clinic staff.
Travel to different clinic locations, sometimes on short notice, to provide coverage.
Travel Requirements
This is a true floater position, so flexibility with travel is essential.
Typically travel within approximately a 2-hour radius of the assigned market.
Additional travel outside the normal radius, including travel to other states, may occasionally be required.
Overnight stays may be required on occasion.
Reliable personal transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance are required.
Mileage is reimbursed at the applicable company rate.
Schedules are generally planned in advance, but floaters may be asked to cover last-minute or same-day staffing needs.
Training
The initial training period includes:
Week 1: Training at a designated training location. Hotel accommodations may be provided when travel is required.
Week 2: On-site training with a lead or supervisor.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
1-3+ years of hands-on phlebotomy and specimen processing experience.
Formal training in phlebotomy, medical assisting, or a related medical program preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred and may be required depending on the state.
Comfortable performing venipunctures using different collection equipment and needle sizes.
Strong attention to detail and specimen identification/labeling accuracy.
Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to different clinical environments.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Organized and able to manage changing priorities.
Comfortable working with different providers, managers, and clinical teams.
