Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Location

Lufkin, TX | Acute Care

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Days | 12-Hour Shifts | Onsite | Every other weekend required | Holidays required | Block scheduling cannot be accommodated — scheduling is based on facility needs

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 25-bed Medical Surgical / Telemetry unit with patient ratios of 5–6:1, with PCT support at 12:1
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips independently; telemetry monitor techs are present but RNs are expected to read strips
• Titrate Heparin drips as needed; manage patients on CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
• Care for patients with common diagnoses including CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, CKD, and general med/surg telemetry conditions
• Float to all med/surg units and potentially to the PCU to care for telemetry holds awaiting transfer
• Document using the Paragon charting system (facility is transitioning to EPIC in October 2026)

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license valid in the state of Texas (or compact eligibility)
• Minimum 18 months of recent Medical Surgical / Telemetry experience
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required or may be required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Strong communication and time management skills; must be a collaborative team player

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience working in a rural hospital setting
• Familiarity with Heparin drip titration protocols
• Experience managing patients on CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen
• Adaptability in environments with variable staff continuity
