Overview
The Registered Radiologic Technologist is responsible for providing care within the Heart & Vascular Institute, specifically for patients undergoing invasive cardiology or radiology studies. The position involves assisting physicians in various procedures, ensuring a valuable service is delivered to both the patient and the medical team.
Responsibilities
- Administer contrast material as requested by the physician, responding to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions.
- Work under the supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist.
- Manage inventory and supplies efficiently.
- Confirm correct patient and chart identification and ensure the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment positioning.
- Gather and compile relevant clinical information, including lab and pathology details.
- Support the training and instruction of new staff members when necessary.
- Maintain accurate documentation according to established policies and procedures.
- Explain procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality.
- Perform essential functions of a Radiologic Technologist.
- Participate in on-call duties and adapt to variable shifts as needed.
- Maintain a sterile field during procedures and handle contrast and treatment administration appropriately.
- Assess patients for any allergies.
- Supply necessary materials for procedures.
Specific Duties
- Conduct Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory procedures, including left heart catheterization, coronary stenting, right heart catheterization, pericardiocentesis, and vascular access under sterile conditions.
- Assist in Structural Heart Procedures such as TAVR, Watchman, Mitraclip, Triclip, ASD/PFO, and CardioMEMs.
- Coordinate Hybrid Peripheral Vascular work with vascular surgery, including EVAR, TCAR, and TEVAR.
- Utilize adjunctive tools, including but not limited to ICUS, FFR/iFR, Lithotripsy, Laser, Rota, Impella, IABP, OCT, and CTO.
