Job Title: Press Operator / Die Setter
Employment Status: Full-Time, contract to hire
Pay: $18/hr
Primary Job Function
The Press Operator / Die Setter is responsible for setting dies and automation tooling, operating press lines and machinery, loading/unloading steel and aluminum coils and sheet metal, and ensuring efficient production flow. Working in a team environment, this role involves inspecting quality, racking finished parts, conducting metal rework, operating forklifts and overhead cranes, and adhering to strict continuous improvement (5S/TPM) and safety standards.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Die & Tooling Setup:
Complete inside and outside die changeovers using overhead cranes.
Load stamping dies onto press bolsters and step up/down bolsters as required during setup.
Set presses with dies, automation tooling, and perform basic press programming.
Build, adjust, fine-tune, and troubleshoot automation tooling and machinery faults.
Press Line & Material Handling:
Operate press equipment and production lines following established departmental procedures.
Offload aluminum/steel coils from semi-trucks using coil grabbers.
Load sheet metal blanks and coils onto press lines.
Drive forklifts and operate cranes to transport materials, tooling, and parts.
Perform metal rework on parts as needed and rack parts per specification.
Quality, Documentation & ERP:
Inspect produced parts against quality standards and identify defects in sheet metal/aluminum.
Maintain complete and accurate paperwork/records (e.g., CRRF, check-sheets, scrap room records, coil tracking).
Utilize the company ERP system (PLEX) for production tracking and data entry.
Initiate quality improvements and assist in resolving technical or process concerns.
Safety, TPM & Housekeeping:
Conduct daily inspections of cranes and fork trucks.
Know and strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Maintain clean work areas, clean the scrap basement, maintain die storage areas, and enforce housekeeping standards.
Actively participate in 5S and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) continuous improvement initiatives.
Perform any and all additional work assignments as directed by Management.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of manufacturing experience required (1+ years of Press Operation experience strongly preferred).
Skills & Knowledge:
Knowledge of quality management systems and defect identification (sheet metal/aluminum).
Basic knowledge of operating ERP systems (e.g., PLEX).
Ability to troubleshoot and assist with basic machine/automation programming.
